Big Congrats to Amelia Viator on completing her first 26.2 yesterday at the TCS New York City Marathon !!

8 years ago I helped this young lady work through an injury so she could compete in the state meet, and it was an honor that she reached out again for help her with her marathon. I’m really proud of all the hard work you did to make your dream a reality, Amelia!
I think there will be many more big races in your future!

Beautiful Halloween morning watching zombies chase humans and my son through a 5K at Camp Shenandoah! No brains were eaten, but the trails did claim a few ankle ligaments and a little skin off of one hand.

Also heard two really scary stories today -
1. An orthopedist put a high school XC runner in a boot for two weeks with no rehab while still telling her she could race for district! 😱💀

2. A shoe salesman told a guy with no problems that he “needed” orthotics to “correct pronation” and two weeks later he strained a calf muscle right before the marathon he had spent 5 months training for! He’s since realized he feels better without the orthotic. 😱💀😖

I hope your Halloween is less scary!

(Also, I gave these ankle sprains ice bags because they asked for ice, while telling them about PEACE & LOVE >> RICE)

Andy's Backyard Ultra 2026! It started at 7 AM Saturday, but I didn’t arrive until 12:30 after working at the Crozet race - otherwise this reel would be even longer! 🤣
The race finished after 35 “yards” / hours, ~ 146 miles ran by the winner, Zacharie Slaight!

Appreciate medical student Angela˙ᵕ˙ spending 14 hours on a Saturday with me, and Dr. Abigail Bideaux for helping cover Andy’s.

Fun having so many class members out there, both racing and cheering.

Darcy Dirksen and Clint Upchurch exceeded expectations after several rough training weeks.

Ian Nataro hit a new distance PR and it was a pleasure getting to know his crew chief ina_stephens17

Merry Ellen Barnett hit 5/6 goals for the race and lowered her 100K PR by > 1 hour 🤯. W. Barnett wore all of his cutest outfits while feeding MEB burgers.

It was so cold.

Shawn Tevendale is the best grill master.

Rick Kwiatkowski remains the best juggling RD I know, and Mary Kwiatkowski and patrickpaczkowski are wonderful people.

I got a signed copy of Alone, Together from the amazing Meg Landymore and have read almost half of it already.

It was so cold.

Enjoyed hanging out with Dr. Lee Matthis, DC, PSP and learning about outdoor survival school.

We treated: a blister, painful toes, exhaustion, sprained ankle, heart burn, asthma, foot pain, and probably something else.

I’m probably forgetting some other cool folks too, but that happens after 3 hours of sleep. Looking forward to next year!!

Wish I could go to this, but I have a class at The Basement Crozet. All active walkers, runners, and cyclist should attend!

The last 2 hours of Andy's Backyard Ultra condensed to a minute! Fantastic examples of teamwork and sportsmanship in the midst of competition! Congrats to Tyler for a first assist and more than doubling the farthest he’s ever ran, and Congrats to Zach with the big win!!

I think I may have set a new PR as well with about 34.5 hours of continuous race coverage starting with the Crozet Trail Crew at 7:30 on Saturday and wrapping up at Andy’s at 6 PM on Sunday! It was a beautiful and frigid and amazing weekend. Shout out to Dr. Abigail Bideaux for covering Andy’s on Saturday morning! Thank you!!
