April 11, 1955. The day the world changed forever

71 years ago, a vision was born. A vision of discipline, power, and an indomitable spirit. Today, we don't just celebrate an anniversary; we honor the legacy of the Founder, General Choi Hong Hi.

From a single room to every corner of the globe, ITF Taekwon-Do has become more than a martial art—it is a way of life. It has shaped generations of leaders, warriors, and citizens of the world.

Through every Tul, every strike, and every "Taekwon!", his soul lives on. The flame he ignited 71 years ago burns brighter than ever in the hearts of millions.

Thank you, General, for giving us the path. We are the guardians of your legacy.

One Founder. One Legacy. 71 Years of Taekwon-Do. 🥋

Board breaking isn’t about aggression. It’s about control, confidence, and commitment.

More highlights from our IBBCV Open House this past Saturday: awesome technique and spirit on display.

This past Saturday’s Open House at the International Black Belt Center of Virginia was a real success. We loved welcoming members of the Charlottesville community who came to watch (and jump in to try) traditional Taekwon-Do. Between the board-breaking demos, great energy in the dojang, and an impressive spread of food, it felt like exactly what a martial arts school should be: challenging, supportive, and fun.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day memorable. If you couldn’t make it, please consider stopping by to check us out. Even though our training is non-contact, traditional martial arts are widely associated with benefits that go well beyond physical power It supports focus, self-regulation, coordination, and healthy brain development. And there’s strong evidence that these skills correlate with academic success over time.

Come see what nontraditional Taekwon-Do looks like in action, and if you’re curious, come try a class.

Did you know that traditional Taekwon-Do is directly correlated with improved academic achievement? It’s not just about kicks and punches. The non-contact form practiced at IBBCV is deeply tied to brain and neurological development. Focus. Discipline. Confidence. Coordination. These aren’t buzzwords, they’re real outcomes our members experience every week, from our youngest students at age 5 to members in their 70s. This Saturday, March 7th at 1:15 PM, come see it for yourself at our FREE Open House. Live demonstrations, great food, and free extended passes for all attendees.
