What’s your favorite Tricep exercise?
I love the unique movement & feel of the Paramount Tricep Pressdown but recently I’ve found myself using the Star Trac machine for single arm extension more than anything else.

It’s been a journey.
When I first had the idea to open my own gym I wasn’t sure if it was even possible. Back then there were a lot fewer independent gyms and getting an insurance company to even accept a policy for an unstaffed 24 hour gym was a challenge as it was all still so new. I didn’t have any business partners or mentors so it was very much a “trial by fire” as I figured things out.
We had a great 2.5 years at the original location and then Covid arrived. It’s hard to look back at that time knowing what we know now, but there was so much fear and uncertainty surrounding everything. I let members take home bars, dumbbells, plates etc. so people at least had something to use - but my landlord wouldn’t give any concessions and I was still being charged full price on rent despite being closed for three months.
Since the restrictions didn’t apply to being outdoors - I was going to move the equipment out every morning so that we could still be open outside, but my landlord struck down that plan as well and wouldn’t let us do that, so I had no other option, but to start selling my equipment.
I spent most of Covid driving around the country delivering equipment and by the end I had sold more than half the machines I owned just to be able to stay open. For a few weeks, it really felt like the end and I had accepted that I wasn’t going to reopen and this dream was dead.
When it became clear we were going to be able to reopen before I had sold everything, I was scrambling to replace the machines I had sold so members who had been waiting weren’t disappointed coming back.
I also started searching for a new space as my relationship with the previous landlord was untenable due to their lack of care and compromise while I was still paying full rent and jumping through all the hoops of the new regulations.
Luckily I ended up finding our current space shortly after and we have been building here ever since.
So much has happened over the last eight years, and I have experienced the full range of emotions - successes, failures, and everything in between.
I can’t wait to see what things look like 8 years from now.
There are levels to this.
8 years, hundreds of machines bought & sold, & hundreds of thousands of miles driven through 48 states (+Canada), all to make this the best gym Charlottesville has ever seen.
I have tried virtually every machine ever made from the earliest Nautilus machines to the newest innovations. There’s a lot of incredible designs and also a lot of nonsense & hype over machines that don’t deserve it. That’s why I have done so much research and testing independently, so I can try and sift through the noise and provide the most complete gym for my members.
This gym will never be “done” - because I will never be satisfied and I think our hard working members deserve a gym that is equally hard working to help them meet their goals. There’s always going to be a never ending wishlist of machines, but I have also tried to make sure that all of the machines in here compliment each other and there is nothing that isn’t used or is redundant.
Now that I feel I have finally done enough “research” - this year I’m taking a different approach and I will be bringing some of my own ideas and designs to life. I can’t wait to share them with you all.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey and also to those who haven’t. I’m as hungry as ever and I don’t know how to stop.

A few of our more unique machines
1. Strive Leg Press - one of my favorite machines I own. I think Pime missed the mark but not reproducing this model with the moving footplate as it is a big difference between this one and the fixed footplate version. I prefer using this machine single leg, loaded at the mid range, but I recommend playing around with it a bit to figure out what feels best for you.
2. Paramount Selectorized Tricep Pressdown - I’ve seen a few of these in the plate loaded version but fewer with a weight stack. This one has a great feel to it and really helps you lock into place and focus on your triceps.
3.Magnum Glute Kickback - this one has an oversized footplate that makes the movement a lot more comfortable than some other similar models. This isn’t the rarest machine by any means, but I am not sure I have seen this exact model anywhere else and added bonus that I bought this one from the Dave Mathew’s Band a few years ago.
We have many more incredible machines to try and we always offer the first day pass free (for local residents) so stop by and see for yourself!
