📸 30 Years of Wintergreen Adaptive Sports!
This year marks 30 years of building confidence, creating opportunities, and making sure everyone has a place in the outdoors.
As we get ready to kick off this year's Donovan Matching Challenge, we'd love to celebrate the people and moments that have shaped Wintergreen Adaptive Sports over the last three decades.
Do you have a favorite WAS photo or memory? Whether you're a student, volunteer, parent, instructor, donor, or friend of the program, we'd love to see it!
📷 Share your favorite WAS photo in the comments! Tell us when it was taken or share a favorite memory from that day.
We'll be sharing some of our favorite memories as we celebrate 30 years together.
🎉 The Donovan Matching Challenge begins Labor Day (09/07) and runs through Veterans Day. Stay tuned to learn how your gift can make an even greater impact during this special 30th anniversary campaign.

Everyone deserves the chance to enjoy the outdoors. 🌿
This summer, the Wintergreen Adaptive Sports team has been exploring hiking and biking trails throughout our region as we look for places that are accessible for adaptive equipment. Wide, well-maintained trails with gentle grades and fewer roots or large rocks can open the outdoors to so many more people.
Do you have a favorite accessible hiking or biking trail in your area? Share your recommendations in the comments below! We'd also love to hear what makes it accessible and enjoyable for everyone

What an incredible week at iCan Bike Camp! 🚴♀️
Over the course of five days, riders worked hard and built confidence. Every lap around the track, every new skill, and every milestone reached was a testament to the determination of our campers. Watching riders gain confidence and independence on two wheels is something truly special. The smiles at graduation said it all.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this week possible. We are so grateful to our volunteers, partners, and families for creating an environment where every rider had the opportunity to succeed. For many riders, learning to ride a bike isn't just about two wheels. It's about gaining confidence, independence, and the freedom to explore alongside family and friends.
Congratulations to all of our riders. We can't wait to see where your new skills take you!

Before the cookouts, long weekends, and unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day asks us to pause.
At Wintergreen Adaptive Sports, we take time to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. We also reflect on the sacrifices carried by military families, friends, and fellow service members whose lives are forever shaped by loss.
Through our Wounded Warrior programming and Every Day is Armed Services Day, we have the privilege of serving veterans and military families throughout the year. Their stories remind us of the importance of remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
From all of us at Wintergreen Adaptive Sports, we remember and honor the fallen.

Earlier this month, Wintergreen Adaptive Sports was proud to support a team of adaptive athletes at the River to Road Relay!
From paddling to cycling to crossing the finish line, athletes took on every stage of this incredible relay with teamwork, determination, and plenty of smiles along the way. WAS was honored to help support wheelchair athletes in participating fully in the race and experiencing the excitement of competition alongside fellow racers.
It was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when athletes have access to new opportunities and the support to pursue them.
Congratulations to everyone who participated. We were so happy to be part of the day and can’t wait to cheer everyone on again next year!

📚One of our very own multi-talented WAS instructors has some exciting news to share!📖
Brooke McIntyre is launching her first picture book this Saturday, If You Went to the Bottom of the Ocean, and you’re invited to celebrate with her.
Join her for a book launch and storytime at Bluebird & Co in Crozet this Saturday, May 9th from 11:00–11:45am. It’s a great event for kids, grandkids, and anyone who loves the ocean. There will even be a fun craft where kids can make their own flippers to take home.
The book takes young readers on an underwater adventure, diving through ocean zones and discovering incredible sea creatures along the way.
Come out and support Brooke and celebrate this amazing accomplishment!
