Our 3rd graders headed to the Chaska Fire Station to learn from the experts at the Chaska Fire Department! From learning how to prevent fires and create a home escape plan to knowing when and how to call 911, students explored the steps they can take to stay safe in an emergency.

They also got an up-close look at a fire engine, discovered the tools firefighters use every day, and participated in fire safety drills alongside the firefighters. These hands-on lessons help students feel prepared and confident if an emergency ever happens.

A big thank you to the Chaska Fire Department for welcoming our students and helping them build these important life skills! 👏

“Being a great teammate is an everyday thing.”

That was one of the messages NHL Stanley Cup Champion TJ Oshie shared with our 8th graders as he talked about what it takes to be a great teammate — on the ice and beyond.

TJ challenged students to ask themselves: How hard can I push myself? Will I compete harder than my opponent?

He encouraged them to bring a positive attitude, lift others up, take accountability, and work hard. And when it comes to effort, “you go all the way, and you never stop short.” Sometimes, one less stride can make the difference.

He also reminded students that the little things matter. “It might not be a SportsCenter play, but it just might win you a championship.”

From showing up with the right attitude to loving what you do — even when you’re frustrated or things aren’t going your way — TJ’s message was a great reminder that being a good teammate is something you choose every day.

Thank you, TJ, for sharing your experience and challenging our students to keep pushing, keep competing, and be the kind of teammate others can count on. 🏒
