Just because your boat needs repair, does not mean you can't catch good fish from the bank. There is always something out there ready to be caught. Like this 28 pound common carp.
For those who didn't know, this is actually my favorite species to catch. There is a certain amount of challenge and finesse that is needed to land these bigger carp on rod and reel intentionally. I've always been intrigued by it.
This one fell for a Enzyme Treated Pineapple Peanut Soluble Boilie. Which is basically a air dried doughball that breaks down in the water. I also had probably the best net person on the planet. She also did a great job modeling the fish for me.
This particular batch of bait is from Ballie Baits. Good bait along with my favorite medium heavy rods of all time from FOA Customs and Gear, LLC .

Been a crazy year so far! Boat is down, but fishing is still happening! The FOA rods are still putting in the work. My favorite rods on the market. Definitely the most bang for your buck as a multispecies angler! Went carp fishing for an hour before the storms came in. Wound up with our biggest Blue Cat of the year so far, as well as our first Smallmouth Buffalo of 2026, and a decent sized Channel Cat. Shout out to Ballie Baits for supplying the bait used today!

We’ve all seen it on the water—the classic "fish kiss" before the release. Some do it for the 'gram, but for us, it's a deep-rooted tradition of saying thanks to the river.
If you're looking for that extra bit of luck on your next outing, give it a try—but learn from our mistakes! Those big catfish have sandpaper-like pads that can do a number on your face, and bluegill spines are no joke. Respect the fish, show some love, but keep your eyes on those fins!

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned on the Tennessee River is that you can’t rush a trophy. Shana and I spent years in that 20lb range, and looking back, those were the most important years. They taught us how to handle these fish and how to respect them. When you finally hook into a 50 or 80-pounder, you realize you're tangling with a fish that might be older than you are. If you’re stuck on a plateau right now, keep grinding. Those "smaller" fish are just preparing you for the day you meet a true river titan.

Just a quick tip for my fellow Tennessee anglers hitting the rivers this spring: Don't get tunnel vision on the Bass! We went out chasing Smallmouth in Southeast TN in the past, but the Walleye were actually the stars of the show. With water temps between 40 and 50 degrees, the Walleye are in their peak spawning run and hitting way more aggressively than the Smallies that time of year. If the bass bite is slow, try moving toward those shallow rocky areas near the current. You might just find a "surprise" limit of Walleye waiting for you. Good luck out there!

I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz lately about this "secret" Smallmouth rig, and it took me down memory lane. I actually filmed my first-ever video chasing giants with this exact setup—only we called it "tight lining". It’s funny how the best "new" tricks are often just the ones our mentors were using 20 years ago. If you’re struggling to find a pattern, sometimes simplifying things and going back to the basics is the best edge you can have. Hope this helps some of you put more fish in the boat this weekend!
