Randolph & White Set Their Sights on Championship Saturday at Tennessee State Championship
KINGSTON, Tenn. — Boyd Buchanan High School anglers Trey Randolph and Will White still have work to do, but their Tennessee Bass Nation High School State Championship dream is very much alive.
Fishing against some of the best high school teams in Tennessee on legendary Watts Bar Lake, the Boyd Buchanan duo brought a solid 13.28-pound limit to the scales on Day 1 of the 2026 Tennessee Bass Nation High School State Championship. Their catch places them 37th overall heading into the final day of competition.
While the standings show a climb ahead, Randolph and White know exactly what is at stake.
The ultimate goal is a Top 8 finish, which would earn the pair a coveted berth to the national championship. After Day 1, the leaders sit at 24.42 pounds, while the current cut line for eighth place stands at 16.18 pounds, leaving the Boyd Buchanan team within striking distance if they can put together a strong Day 2 performance.
For Randolph and White, simply reaching this stage has already been a tremendous accomplishment.
This season marks their first year representing Boyd Buchanan High School on the Tennessee Bass Nation High School trail, and they wasted no time making their presence known. Through dedication, countless hours on the water, early mornings, late nights, and a relentless commitment to learning the sport, they earned their place among Tennessee’s elite young anglers and qualified for the state championship field.
Watts Bar Lake, one of East Tennessee’s premier bass fisheries, has challenged competitors throughout the event. Known for producing both largemouth and smallmouth bass, the lake often rewards anglers who can make adjustments and capitalize on limited opportunities. That ability to adapt may be the key for Randolph and White as they prepare for Championship Day.
Those who know the Boyd Buchanan pair understand one thing: they won’t back down from a challenge.
Championship fishing is rarely won on the first day. It is won by anglers who keep their confidence, trust their preparation, and capitalize when opportunities present themselves. With one day remaining, Randolph and White still have every opportunity to make a move up the leaderboard and chase a national championship qualification.
Regardless of where the final standings fall, the future is bright for Boyd Buchanan fishing. Competing against the best teams in the state and putting themselves in position to make a run at nationals during their first season together is an achievement worth celebrating.
Now, the focus turns to Day 2.
One more launch. One more weigh-in. One more chance to make a statement.
Boyd Buchanan Nation will be watching.
Good luck to Trey Randolph and Will White as they take on Championship Saturday at Watts Bar Lake and chase a spot on the national stage.
