5/23 N. Chickamauga Creek: Lock through Dam TRIP REPORT:

"On a day with heavy rain showers one hour before the trip, we had 14 paddlers show up, hoping for the best. The rain stopped, the sun came out, and we had a great trip.

We began at the Greenway Farm lower launch on North Chickamauga Creek. After putting in, we paddled about two miles downstream to just outside the lock at the Chickamauga Dam. After contacting the lockmaster, we were instructed to enter the lock. From the perspective of a kayak, the lock seems huge, even though they are building a much larger lock next to the current one.

After locking through, we paddled across the lake about one mile, and finished our trip at the Chickamauga Dam boat ramp.

The group met afterwards at Aubrey’s Restaurant in Hixson, TN for refreshments.

On a day that looked like a total washout, 14 people took a chance and had a great day on the water."

"As many of you already know, Rosemary ('Hook') Hill passed away suddenly on May 17th. She suffered for nearly 20 years from a degenerative neurological disorder called ataxia.

Hook loved to paddle and you may have seen her a time or two on the river with her beloved Papillon puppy "Lovie" on the bow. The dog loved the water more than Hook!

Ace Kayaking School, the premier kayaking schools in the Southeast, is offering several group clinics exclusively for TVCC members this season.

This clinic is designed for Class III paddlers with a solid combat roll. It’s a great opportunity to learn proper playboat/slicey boat technique and build good habits at the start of playboat season.

5/9 N. CHICK TRIP REPORT
"11 paddlers met at 10 on 5/9/26 at the Longview Dr ramp on the N Chick Creek and paddled down to the Lower Greenway Farm ramp.
It was an easier trip than normal as the creek was up 18 inches and we pretty much cruised down the middle rather than the normal zig zagging around obstacles.
We went to the nearby Aubrey's afterwards for some grog and grub. A fun group."
