❗Hiwassee Release Update

Attention to anyone who enjoys spending time near or on the Hiwassee River!

Due to ongoing drought conditions in the area, TVA has changed the recreational release schedule for the Hiwassee River. Beginning Monday July 20th and continuing through Labor Day (9/7), the Hiwassee River release schedule will run as follows:

Monday - Friday:
11:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Saturday - Sunday:
11:00 AM to 7:00 PM

We encourage everyone who will be around or in the water to double check the TVA release schedule for any changes. Anticipated schedules for the following day are posted by 6 PM ET. Be aware that the schedule can change due to extreme weather!

2 Generators is generally best for boating or tubing the river.

Learn the essential river rescue skills every whitewater paddler should know. This beginner-friendly course focuses on safety, self-rescue, and helping others on the river through hands-on practice.

What's Included:
* Hands-on, boat-based beginner river rescue training on the Hiwassee River
* Instruction from experienced swiftwater rescue instructors and volunteers
* Free camping on Friday and Saturday nights
* Catered taco dinner on Saturday evening

Ocoee River from Dam 1 to Dentville Rd Trip Report:
"On July 11, 2026, 18 paddlers went on a 12-mile trip down the Ocoee River. We were on the water for about three hours. We took a short break about half-way down. The current on the river was brisk and we averaged 4.2 mph. It rained before and after our trip, but we had a sunny, dry, beautiful paddle. After the trip, we went to Los Poblanos restaurant in Benton for refreshments." -Jon

The Hiwassee River Blueway would like to share this fun event! "Downstream Rush" kayak race will start at Hiwassee Acres River Resort and end at the Blueway. Kayakers will be transported back to Hiwassee Acres. This is a 10:00 am race with a $500 prize on the 18th. In addition, there's a Glow w the Flow Sat and Sunday nights to the Hiwassee's "Hidden Meadows".
