~Eating local food is eating an Ayurvedic diet👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼~

When I first started learning about this mysterious, ancient science of longevity known as I became . After learning what my
“ ” (my own personal balance of the elements in my body) was I became obsessed with what I was eating and definitely, looking back, was too restrictive with my diet. I became a list follower, only allowing myself to eat from which ever particular list proclaimed to keep me healthy in that moment. Though food lists can initially help us understand what foods have what qualities, I have come to realize that the great sages and reshis who realized through awakening this system were NOT eating from a list. They were eating intuitively and LOCALLY. even just 100 years ago wasn’t something anyone had to think about. It was the only option. Society, in my humble opinion, has “evolved” itself into a state of un-health. Because of marketing schemes by the food industries we have become like spoiled little children demanding that we have avocados and tomatoes in the winter and the latest “ “ shipped from far away lands right here in good ole America. What we fail to remember is that our ancestors had twice the health we did without the need for special, exotic foods because they knew what we have forgotten... how to be, eat and live right here, right now. In the words of Myra Lewin,”we want our food to entertain us” when what we need it to do is us. It is not to eat from a list nor is it sustainable to ship our food all over the world so we can have blueberries in January. Ayurveda would say that eating out of season makes these “superfoods” not so super anymore because we must eat to properly digest and thus absorb the most nutrients out of our food. So today happens to be .market day, 4-5pm. I write this post to encourage you to make a change and for your food above all else because is eating a balanced without ever having to look at a list. ✌🏼💗🙏🏼🕉🌎

The ancient texts of ayurveda clearly map out healing Ayurvedic daily routines to strengthen the energetic heart and nurture the soul within the beautiful dance that is our day. called is one of the daily routines that once you introduce yourself to it your life will be changed forever. I cannot imagine a winter day without my nightly warm oiling before shower and bed. Abhyanga is amazing at balancing excess air and space in the body and mind. It can help issues related to excess air and space such as anxiety, sleep disorders, fear and lack of faith.

Enjoy this quick guide to Ayurvedic body oiling and let me know what you think!!

1. Warm oil (contact me if u want and oil warmer like the one pictured above:)
2. Lay out an old towel or sheet.
3. Beginning at the feet massage slow and lovingly the entire foot and toes.
4. Moving up to the ankles think circles on all joints and strokes on the long bones.
5. Using this technique move from bottom to top of your body circling at the stomach and spend extra time at the energetic heart center.
6. When you arrive at the face massage lovingly over your face beginning with horizontal strokes across forehead, circles on temples, and around eyes and on jaws. Strokes across sinuses and across top lip. Finally circles with the palm on the chin.
7. I don’t do this every Nigt but occasionally there is nothing more grounding. Finnish with a warm oil pour on the crown of the head. Then massage the entire scalp and hair with the warm oil.
*** to remove oil from hair use shampoo before wearing hair. Then wash a few times with shampoo. Use a washcloth over the body to remove excess oil but no soap. Enjoy a thin layer of oil left on the body!

Ok as promised here is the first gut healing recipe. “Better than chicken soup” from the Ayurvedic Vegan Kitchen by Talya Lutzker. I LOVE the miso in this soup! I use a chickpea, gluten-free miso from Whole Foods. The perfect pair to this warming soup is sweet Jennifer Blair’s corn bread! I adapted the cornbread recipe to be more moist then called for so as to not be too dry for my dry digestion but it’s the perfect bread for my moist family. I also made the cornbread recipe vegan and moist using chia seed egg replacer (my new favorite trick). The soup is adapted as well. In place if water I use half bone broth and half veggie broth for a more gut friendly, dryness pacifying treat. Enjoy!!! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼🕉✨🔥

Over the holidays my family and I shared love, peace, joy, much needed time together and... pinkeye. Yes conjunctivitis has wreaked havoc on our entire household. First, Wyatt brought it home from school then Frankie Jolene got it then Chris came down with a cold and shared that with the kids but managed to avoid the pinkeye. I took care of everyone in the house and was so proud of myself for not catching a thing. Then about two weeks ago I came down with all of it😳 Yes I got pinkeye and the cold virus all at the same time. It was like one big mucus festival in my body :-). I tell you all of this because I want you to know first of all that just because we eat a balanced diet and do the best we can doesn’t mean we’re never going to get sick. I also want to be very real and upfront with you when things like this happen so that I don’t come across as living some perfectly balanced lifestyle just because I like to share my love of ayurveda. So not only did I come down with all of these things but I ended up finally having to take antibiotics for the first time since I was a kid because the conjunctivitis somehow migrated into other areas of my body, and I’ll just leave it at that :-) Over the next few days I will share with you some recipes and I’m using to rebuild the good bacteria in my gut. We will be using everything from yogurt to miso, tempeh and even Kiefer. I hope you enjoy the recipes to come. And I wish you all luck in avoiding catching anything, but if you do just remember to keep your digestive fire strong🔥, feed a cold starve a fever, and if, god forbid, you have to take antibiotics do your best to keep your gut flora alive :-)✌🏼❤️🙏🏼🕉🌸

✨Ojas✨
My “Treecher” calls ojas “Love. The Glue that holds the universe together, primal vigor, strength.” After studying in depth this past week about signs of low ojas I think I will make it my mission to build ojas in my body. After having Wyatt 6 years ago I lost 10 lbs that I just haven’t been able to put back on. Yes in the West we think skinny is always good but sometimes it means we have lost our luster that we need in order to have a strong immune system and for life itself! Ghee happens to be one of the most important foods that we can eat in order to build ojas. Recently I have gotten a little lazy and been buying my ghee at the store but today I wanted to make it myself and poor lots of love and Ojas building prayers into this healing oil. Here’s a simple recipe to make your own ghee.

Buy two packages of organic unsalted butter. Dump them all into a thick bottom pot such as a pressure cooker pot. Heat on medium low until the butter fully melts and begins to bubble or “talk”. Continue until vicki starts talking to you and becomes more silent. You will see milk solids floating on top of the ghee as well as sinking to the bottom of the ghee. During the cooking of the ghee scoop off the milk solids With a wooden spoon. Sit with your key through the entire process. Enjoy pleasing music or you could even chant Over the sacred oil. A chant for building Ojas is SHRIM (shreem). When the oil stops bubbling and the pieces on the bottom of the oil have lightly turn to a golden brown turn the burner off. Take a clean cloth or three or four layers of cheesecloth and using a rubber band place over a ball jar. Slowly pour the oil through the strainer and into the jar. Let cool and enjoy! Note: Ghee Can be left to sit out Indefinitely as long as it is not contaminated with water or food particles.
