This is exactly what we was looking for.

A parent brought his son in today to experience what we do at Green’s Karate.

He had martial arts experience himself when he was younger, so he understood what he was watching. Because we was using some of our proprietary teaching methods, he signed a nondisclosure agreement before observing the lesson.

Afterward, he told me he was highly impressed and that this was exactly what he had been looking for for his son.

What are we working on?

Body awareness. Timing. Balance. Coordination. Focus

These are foundational skills that can make a tremendous difference in how a child moves, learns, responds, and builds confidence.

Our job isn’t simply to teach punches, kicks and kata.

It’s to look at the student in front of me, identify what they need help developing, and use karate as a vehicle to help build those skills.

Today, a parent got to watch that process firsthand.

And his response was simple:

This is exactly what I was looking for.

There is a lot to digest here if you are new to the sport world of karate. With 15k views and about 250 likes, this seems to be helping a lot of upcoming officials. Will make more content like this when needed in the future.

Your rank should mean something beyond the school where you earned it. 🥋

At Green’s Karate, our ranks are certified through Japan, and your belt carries your name embroidered in Japanese.

That means your training has recognition beyond our dojo. If you move, travel, or train somewhere else, you’re carrying a rank with real documentation and lineage behind it.

Most people never think to ask about this when choosing a martial arts school.

They should.

Most people think karate is about punches, kicks, blocks and kata.

That’s what you can see.

What you don’t always see is what it can build underneath all of that:

Focus. Coordination. Discipline. Confidence. Body control. Persistence. Character.

Karate is the vehicle.

The real goal is helping people become stronger, more capable and more confident in themselves.

Watch the video and tell me what karate means to you.

So I made this instead.

At Green’s Karate, we believe clear expectations help every student succeed.

For years, our program has been built around Manners, Respect, and Self-Discipline. As our school continues to grow, we want to make sure every family clearly understands what we expect during class and how we handle behavior that disrupts instruction.

This is not directed at any one student or family. It is simply a clearer explanation of the standards we have always worked to maintain.

Our goal is for every student to learn, have fun, do their best, build confidence, and train in an environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

We’ll be posting these guidelines in the dojo, providing them as a handout, and sharing them with new families as they join us.

Thank you to all of our parents for partnering with us and supporting the values that make Green’s Karate what it is.

Manners. Respect. Self-Discipline.

Looking for Real Karate in Chattanooga?

For more than 23 years, Green’s Karate has worked to help the public understand an important distinction. Not every martial arts school that uses the word karate actually teaches Japanese karate.
Many schools teach Taekwondo, Hapkido, Kenpo, Kung Fu, mixed martial arts, or combinations of several systems. Those arts may have value, but they are not the same as traditional Japanese karate. Unfortunately, karate is often used as a blanket marketing term for almost any martial arts program, and that has created a great deal of confusion.

At Green’s Karate, karate is not simply a word used in our advertising. It is what we teach.
We are a full time Chattanooga dojo devoted to traditional Sh*to Ryu karate, a recognized Japanese karate system. Our students study karate as a complete martial discipline, not simply as exercise, sport, entertainment, or an after school activity.

Karate should not be separated from self defense. Traditional karate was developed for serious personal protection and has been tested under harsh, real world conditions throughout its history. Its techniques, principles, body mechanics, awareness, discipline, and mental training were not created only for trophies or demonstrations. Authentic karate is, at its foundation, a method of self protection.

That does not mean our training is reckless or violent. Quite the opposite. We train responsibly, progressively, and with control. But we do not pretend that karate and self defense are two unrelated subjects. Self defense is built into genuine karate.

Green’s Karate founder and instructor, Corey Green, is a mixed martial artist who chose karate as his primary system. After studying, practicing, and comparing different martial arts, he personally found that traditional karate offered the greatest number of strengths with the fewest weaknesses.
That decision was not based on loyalty to a label. It was based on years of training, research, comparison, teaching, and practical experience.

Traditional karate provides striking, movement, timing, distance control, balance, discipline, awareness, conditioning, and practical self defense within one complete martial system. It can also be strengthened through knowledge of other arts without losing its identity as karate.
When someone says that you should go somewhere else for self defense but come to them for karate, they may be describing a recreational program that uses karate as a label, not the complete traditional art.

If you are searching for traditional karate in Chattanooga, Japanese karate instruction, Sh*to Ryu karate, practical karate, self defense training, or a full time karate dojo, you have found it.
At Green’s Karate, we do not use karate as a generic marketing term. We preserve it, practice it, and teach it for what it truly is.
