We went to the Tennessee Aquarium the other day. It was a lot of fun. I was able to listen to music while viewing all the fish and animals living their best lives. It was a peaceful experience for me. This was in the butterfly area ... one landed on my son Damien's head ... some teenage kids were taking pics before I realized. He was so excited too. Anyways I hope all of ya'll are hanging in there despite the chaos and demands of everyday life. Make some time to "smell the roses" whatever that might mean to you. I know the struggle is real, hut we got you, I got you as best as Ai can. You matter and youre just the way youre meant to be.

Just a picture of veggies i cooked lately. Trying to inspire myself and others to eat the rainbow 🌈 ✨️

I was sick the past couple days and it has been disheartening because I have been making so much progress physically, and a little mentally.

Being knocked down pretty much always sucks. ( yeah I know there are times you want that but I digress hehe ) wrong topic , wrong time.

So this picture reminds me of some of the good things I have been doing lately to try to love myself so I can then love others the way they deserve.

I know I have a long LONG road ahead still, but im not giving up!

I finally made it back to the mental health place I spent time in last fall. It was nice to see a patient who was with me in the group there also with a guitar.

Tomorrow I have a therapist appointment, and we are supposed to be doing an activity about control. Once we get through that, I will take what I have learned and bring it to the next alumni meeting. We'll the one in June.

These flowers were given to me by my social worker, I believe left over from her celebration anniversary for being at the facility for 25 years I believe. They are so beautiful, and music nature and gratitude are 3 things that can instantly improve one's mood.

Alright catch ya'll later !!!

It takes all my willpower to not say "trying" when I actually did these ( reading and journaling) things. It is my goal to keep up with them so that I can reap the benefits of consistently doing so.

From experience, I know the first step is the hardest. Feel free to follow along on my journey of sprucing up this garden I call life.

I know it has been a hot minute since I have posted, but I am going to try to eat healthier again now that I'm sober and am in therapy. Here is a delicious salad I ate for lunch.

It contains: spinach, cucumber, snow peas, carrots, tomatoes, sweet peppers, low fat cottage cheese, ginger dressing, sesame sticks, black sesame seeds, and a little crumble of feta cheese!

If you've been struggling eating well, I hope that this message reaches you. No matter where you are in life, there is always room for improvement!

Halloween is a "spooky" holiday, but not being able to walk with my kids again would be scarier.

Last year, I was basically bed bound from Alcoholism and depression. I could barely hand out candy to the trick or treaters without feeling like I was about to throw up or get the sweats/ shakes.

This year, I haven't touched alcohol since February 6th, but some damage remains ( neuropathy ). I have done physical therapy, and have exercises I can do at home now to help promote growth and healing .

Alcoholism and other diagnoses can definitely be frightening not only to the person struggling with their mental health, but to the caregivers and loved ones.

By being in a facility, I noticed that there is still so much stigmatized around the mental health scene. For example, whenever I was talking about my current situation being an alcoholic and then having depression, anxiety, psychotic episode, and even sometimes ADHD.

I am aiming to help be part of the change that reduces this stigma, even if it is simply sharing my stories in hopes that they might resonate with someone and encourage them to really seek the help/ care they need/ deserve.

.
If that someone is you: HI, I'm Irene. I'm a recovering alcoholic with several mental health issues, but you are here too.

Together, with all the quiet people as well even, we will talk more about these taboo diagnoses.

Together, we can shine the light on all the spooky preconceptions pertaining to mental health and hopefully shine the light bright enough so more people can see what is really there, rather than the scary shadows we have grown up with masking our ignorance/ darkness that surrounds the Mental Health field.

So today, I will do my best to shine, but to also be as honest with myself and others.

If you choose to join me in anyway, feel free to share a post and tag me in it. We got this and we are stronger together ❤️

I am extremely grateful today for the opportunity to be a Mom to 3 beautiful and amazing kids. I know I let alcohol and depression get the best of me, but I'm so ready to make the rest of our years together sober.

Abigail asked for one large pancake, so I made her this chocolate chip one 😋

Any guesses on MY costume this year... sober enough to go with the kids!!!
