A record sale for Huggins!

🏀 A 1980s Dallas-area collector made a habit of tracking down visiting players to sign Star Basketball cards, and they produced huge payouts in our Spring Auction.

The confluence of unprecedented demand for the set and for period-signed cards created a perfect storm, with this Jordan reaching 100 total bids, and jumping $57,000 in the final day. 🏀

1926-1929 "Exhibit-Style Postcard-Back" Lou Gehrig Portrait PSA EX+ 5.5 06/01/2026

OTD in 1925, Lou Gehrig pitch hit for Yankee shortstop P*e- Wee Wanninger in the 8th inning against the Washington Senators, launching his streak of 2,130 consecutive games played. The next day, he took Wally Pipp’s place in the line-up, playing first base and didn’t relinquish the spot until he took himself out of the lineup in 1939.

To commemorate this historic day, here’s a fantastic mid-grade example of The Iron Horse’s 1926-1929 Exhibits-style postcard-back card, which is currently available for purchase in the REA Marketplace.

Although Rickey Henderson only hit 66 triples in his 25-year career—not even ranking in the top 450 all-time—he stole third base 331 times (including the Postseason) and had an 82% success rate on those steals. He actually believed that stealing third was easier than second!

Speaking of triples, here's a near perfect trio of Rickey rookies: a pair of SGC GEM MINT 10s and a PSA MINT 9 with a perfect GEM MINT 10 signature in blue marker. The signed example and one of the SGC 10s are currently available in the REA Marketplace, while the other SGC 10 will be featured in our Summer Catalog Auction beginning in late July.

OTD in 1951, Willie Mays hit the first of his 660 Major League home runs, sixth all-time in baseball history.

Two years later, he spent the entire 1953 season in the U.S. Army, playing primarily for the Fort Eustis Wheels military baseball team in Virginia. Even though he wasn't playing for the Giants that season, he was still included as a key part of Topps' 1953 issue. This gorgeous SGC NM/MT 8 example of his '53 Topps has been awarded an MBA Silver Diamond sticker and just arrived in the REA Marketplace for immediate purchase. Who will add it to their collection?

Extremely Rare 1921 Frederick Foto Babe Ruth SGC GOOD 30 - One of Only Six Known! 05/27/2026

This incredibly rare 1921 Frederick Foto Babe Ruth SGC GOOD 30 is one of only six known examples, and was just added to the REA Marketplace!

One of the most important, and because of its extreme rarity, also one of the most overlooked Ruth cards in all of card collecting. This card of Babe Ruth is significant not just as the key card of the rare 1921 Frederick Fotos set but also as one of the earliest cards to feature him identified as a member of the New York Yankees. In fact, this card was issued so soon after Ruth joined the Yankees that he is clearly pictured wearing a uniform with “Red Sox” across the front, though the card design identifies him as “Babe Ruth N. Y.” In addition, the photo is unique to this card and appears in no other set. In fact, we can’t find this youthful image anywhere except on this card.

Composed of players from both the Pacific Coast and Major Leagues, the set was issued by the Sacramento-based Frederick Foto photography studio. One of the factors that makes it so rare was its regional distribution in and around the Sacramento area.

Looking to add one of Babe Ruth’s rarest cards to your collection? The REA Marketplace has one and it’s available for purchase now!
