Twenty-five years ago, the world watched in horror — and America's first responders ran toward the danger. Their courage that day is the same courage that shows up in Wyoming's communities every single day — in our local police officers, firefighters and EMS crews who answer the call without hesitation.

On this day of remembrance, we honor the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and we honor every local public safety officer who carries on that legacy of service in our cities and towns. When you dial 911, someone answers. In Wyoming, that someone is your neighbor.

Congratulations to Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins and Pinedale Mayor Matt Murdock on their appointments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC)!

The two Wyoming mayors were selected among 13 new members to serve on the 22-member committee, which provides independent policy advice to the EPA Administrator on issues impacting local, state, tribal and territorial governments.

Their appointments give Wyoming communities a seat at the table on key national discussions surrounding infrastructure, permitting reform, clean air and water, energy, data centers, artificial intelligence and more. Together, they bring the perspectives of both Wyoming's largest city and one of its rural communities, helping ensure federal policies reflect the realities of the communities that implement them.

We are proud to see Wyoming represented at the national level and look forward to the important contributions Mayor Collins and Mayor Murdock will make on behalf of cities and towns across our state.

A historic snapshot of Evanston, Wyoming and a reminder that strong communities are built over generations. Since 1928, WAM has been dedicated to supporting and strengthening Wyoming’s cities and towns.

Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins writes, "I appreciate the Legislature giving state programs a complete review, but I struggle when they want to eliminate economic development programs without local economic development professionals and local governments being fully consulted."
