Simple. I've been looking for the words for these concepts - thank you for creating this guide, ! If systemic racism is like the iceberg that's mostly hidden from view, then my work will mostly be about changing my own internal structures and trusting, step by step, that by my learning and growing, that my external expression will become different - and improved - and the world will turn, one degree at a time.

More and more people are awakening to the realities of racism and feeling inspired to become allies in the quest for racial justice. We are no doubt in a great awakening, and I am filled with hope and motivation to continue showing up and playing my part as an educator in the most honest and helpful ways I can. So this week I've created a guide of common things I'm seeing in the name of allyship that aren't, in my eyes, actually helpful and some suggestions on what you can do instead. ⁠

As with everything I offer, this guide is not intended to blame or shame, if you recognise some of the behaviours in yourself. But a way to check yourself and navigate your allyship in a way that is most useful for black, indigenous and people of colour. We are all learning and the marker of our humanity is not how perfect we are, but how willing we are to see where we can be better and do the work 🌱🖤

I do not profess at all to be a “Political Person.” Yet now, simply by virtue of the color of my skin,

My Father shook MLK’s hand in the 1960’s.
Both Men fought and won for me EVERY privilege that I enjoy today as a
Naturalized Citizen of this country.
Now, simply by living here,
I find myself swept up in quite possibly the
Most Important Dialogue of our Time.

EVERYBODY, BREATHE.

There is so much noise in the Digital Space and In Real Life distracting us from the
Most Important Issues. .


People want to demonstrate solidarity and to do their part.

So long as it moves us in the Right Direction,
Let It Be.
So long as it demands Justice for ALL,
Let It Be.
So long as the net result is that it brings us towards a system in which... .

I must confess, I have yet to learn the full history of .
I shall research on my own, and I welcome and desire for those who know to educate me.
