I’m sitting on my balcony looking at the mountainous Medellin skyline reflecting on my personal life and how it has played the role of a distant second to my career over the past 10 years of my life.

During that time I’ve helped countless friends and coaching clients find new relationships, thrive with their partners, overcome their relationship challenges, heal broken relationships they thought were over for good, or find the strength to walk away from toxic situations.

It has always been easy for me to help everyone else with their love lives but personally I preferred the peace of mind and the freedom of being single.

Even with that mindset, I still found myself in a serious relationship a few years ago with a fiancé and a baby on the way. But the universe had other plans and took both of them from me. I’m not going to lie, having to deal with that kind of loss almost killed me.

After that it was pretty much a wrap for my personal life for a while so I put the idea of having a family on the back burner and dove head first back into my career.

I would still date here and there but it wasn’t a priority for me so I was never fully invested and the “relationships” I had suffered from it.

To the women that were in my life around that time, I owe you an apology…

When Men Were Men:

An era in time when things were simpler and the distractions weren’t deafening.

A time when you could speak your mind and people were strong enough to stomach the words even if they didn’t agree with your opinion.

A time when you had to earn the right to have even the slightest shred of entitlement.

A time when having your own identity was rewarded and it wasn’t cool to do what everyone else was doing.

A time when mystique was sexy and everyone wasn’t in your face 24 hours a day begging for attention.

A time when things weren’t lazily labeled toxic anytime we didn’t want to take the time and do the work to accept and understand what makes us different.

A time when we had enough backbone to question things when the dots weren’t connecting.

A time when loyalty was deeper than the next dollar.

A time when we had the balls to do what we thought was right in the face of adversity regardless of the consequences.

A time when we had the challenging conversations instead of tucking our tail between our legs and ghosting everyone.

A time when conflict meant someone was in actual danger and not just being on the other side of some unpleasant words.

A time when we helped people without the well placed watchful eye of a cellphone camera recording it for recognition.

A time when love was genuinely unconditional not transactional.

A time when we enjoyed actually living our lives more than watching someone else live theirs on a 6 inch screen.

A time when we were more focused on making love than making a manipulative algorithm push our pictures to the top of timelines for people we’ll never meet.
