New research reveals that a consistent, structured exercise routine over two years can significantly rejuvenate heart health in adults around 50âeffectively making their hearts function like those of someone 20 years younger.
The exercise regimen included:
⢠One weekly session of high-intensity interval training (e.g., 4x4 intervals)
⢠A longer aerobic workout once a week (minimum 60 minutes)
⢠One to two moderate-intensity cardio sessions (30+ minutes each)
⢠Strength training twice weekly
After two years, participants experienced major improvements in cardiovascular performance, including better oxygen utilization, enhanced flexibility of the heartâs left ventricle, and decreased stiffnessâtraits typically found in much younger hearts.
This study emphasizes the power of regular, purposeful physical activity in not only maintaining heart health but also reversing the aging effects of a sedentary lifestyle.
