getting to immerse my body in the salty water of the ocean & feel the warmth of the hot sun on my skin is a favorite form of soul care for me 🤍☀️

unlearning a rushed way of life is painful.
slowing down, clearing space, and taking deep breaths more often feels so unnatural to me (after so many years of bulldozing my way through my life, onto the next thing before i even finished the last).
presence has long alluded me; i’ve felt somewhere else than the place i really am too many times. always in my head, planning & rehearsing my packed-to-the-gills schedule so as not to forget anything, overworking my already full-to-the-brim mind on nonessential things.
• pause. take a deep breath in. feel your lungs expand, your chest rise. now slowly exhale, releasing the tension that has taken residence in your shoulders; let your belly fully relax. •
now every day, i actively press or rub up against this hurried part of my very fabric that has such deep & entangled roots. multiple times a day i am reminding myself that it does NOT have to be this way. and that i don’t even want it to be this way anymore. how did i ever think that this was truly living?

starting March 23, i am leading my updated 3 day Soul Fire Activation program — created especially for high-capacity solopreneurs who want to slow down, simplify, and learn a NEW strategy for thriving in their business & in their life with soul care as the foundation — and you are invited. i have designed it as an intimate collective experience, so spots are limited. if you’d like one, simply comment “BREATHE” below 🤍✨

> what do you need to let go of?
some of the heaviest weights:
- regrets that continue to haunt us
- grudges we can’t seem to let go of
- expectations that are getting in our way
this may be unpopular opinion, but here it is: we CAN make our mental load lighter.
one simple way is to clear the unnecessary “applications” running in the background of our mind such as the three examples above. because as they accumulate, our “operating system” runs slower & less efficiently. this leads to a mental stickiness that can become a source of frustration, confusion, and discouragement. when that is our felt internal experience, our ability to connect with others (& ourselves) in a healthy way is significantly diminished — and that benefits no one.
you can choose to reclaim that space in your brain! my encouragement is to make a habit, a rhythm, of release. this can look like pursuing forgiveness (again), seeking joy more often, taking slow & deep breaths, and disconnecting from our responsibilities temporarily in order to just BE. it isn’t weak or lazy or selfish, it’s essential to our well-being — our soul health.

what if life & our current circumstances, didn’t have to feel so hard?
what if it could be more easy?
what if it could be more fun?
••
so often we make things harder & more complicated than they need to be! we overthink, over-plan, and overwork. we believe that if something is important or essential to do, it must also be tedious or require a tremendous amount of effort. our cultural distrust of ease & high value for doing hard things can feel like an impossibly heavy weight. but what if it didn’t have to? 🤍
what if the biggest thing that keeps us from doing what matters is that we think it is going to be really hard?
there’s a concept in cognitive psychology called perceptual load theory that basically says this: our brain’s capacity, albeit large, is limited!
when our brain is filled with clutter — negative emotions, outdated stories, anxious thought patterns — it does not operate optimally. almost like when a computer is operating slowly with too many programs or tabs open 🙈
our brains will always have to make a choice about how to allocate it’s available resources. so learning & implementing simple tactics to slow down the “hard drive” of your mind can reap many rewards for your mental & emotional health 🙌🏽
when we actively seek to remove the distractions in our mind & the burdens on our hearts through a practice of pausing, we begin to feel lighter. maybe we do this through prayer, journaling, a mindful transition, rest, a conversation with a trusted other, a bath, a seated meal, a walk, or anything else that allows you to pause. when our inherent capacities are restored, we can experience more energy, clearheadedness, and ease ✨
• ease is available to you.
• pausing is nourishing to you on every level.
• slower, simpler, and smaller is good too.

how often are you somewhere other than the moment you’re in?
anxiety, preparation, worry, and fear can pull us away from the present before we even realize it.
a lack of presence often = a diminished sense of purpose & productivity. the good news is that the opposite is also true!
here is my take on defining presence, as well as some practical ideas for ways to practice presence in your every day 🤍
in many ways, the pillars of soul care — breath, mindfulness, and movement — are vehicles for more presence in our lives.
> what are the primary barriers to you feeling present? what helps you to feel more present?
