We bid a fond farewell to “Mr. Baseball,” the one and only Bob Uecker, perhaps the best ambassador ever had in recent decades. We shall remain grateful for his 90 years on the planet, will miss him, and will fondly remember him, particularly when we see planes and rockets flying over our fair city.

We express our profound sadness over the loss of a baseball immortal, one Peter Edward Rose. Of his all-time record 4,256 career hits, 156 of them went far enough to earn a trip to our fair city. As with Shoeless Joe Jackson, we mourn the fact that he remains outside the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, and that he will only see it posthumously, if ever. Although we could focus on the stain that creates for the legacies of all the hall’s enshrined members, we choose to focus on his rarely-rivaled greatness and the burning passion that fueled his success, inspiring many across three decades of professional baseball history. Rest in peace, Charlie Hustle, and salute your fellow immortals within the cornfield for us.
