Arcanum might not be Arcanum in the physical space but we’re still here in the virtual world!

If you’re in Chicago you can still join our in person cardio class with at noon today, and if you’re remote, all classes are recorded and available afterwards. Just sign up the same way and the recording will be sent to you!

Cardio belly dance is for any and all dancers with at least a little bit of belly dance background (we move fast, there’s not much breakdown but the moves are beginner-friendly and the footwork is the most important aspect to keep your heart rate up). Mix with just a bit of calisthenics and you have a full body workout that’s not boring!

🚨 Big Announcement 🚨

As y’all know, Drake is packing it out to Austin, TX to start his PhD at UT Austin. We’ve gotten a lot of questions and speculative comments about various parts of our wheelings and dealings—are we breaking up? What’s happening to the studio? Is he coming with you?—so we decided to make this post to address all of that.

Answering some frequently asked questions:

🖤 How long will Drake be gone? 🖤
The program standard is 5 years to degree, although it could take longer (or potentially shorter) than that depending on his speed. Hopefully no longer than 5.

💔 Are you breaking up? 💔
No, we are not. We will be long distance, which we’ve done before when we first started dating in 2022.

🚛 Is Kamrah going to move in with you eventually? 🚛
Unlikely. Kamrah is actually in the process of moving to Europe by the end of the year.

👯‍♂️ What will happen to the studio? 👯‍♂️
Several things. Drake will only be teaching at Arcanum via pre-recorded courses (follow .dance to keep up with class updates!), and Kamrah will teach there through the end of our lease in October. After that, Arcanum World Dance will officially become Arcanum Online, an online dance studio that we will share.

And we are very happy to report that our good friends Jason and Vivian with Ritual Rhythms Chicago are taking over the space and turning it into a multipurpose collaborative space for creatives of all types to host classes, private shows, and gather. They are keeping to Arcanum’s ethos of being a q***r-friendly and inclusive space, and we’re so excited that they’re adopting our store front.

Technique in Tandem: a day of workshops
donating a portion of proceeds to Camp Breakerz, a foundation benefiting children in Gaza through dance, clothing, and educational needs since 2004.

11am- "Infringing Foundations" with Devin.
A beginner friendly combination and technique class. Our movement vocabulary will include Raqs Sharqi, contemporary dance, and Fusion.

1pm - "Fragile Like A Bomb" with Drake.
Using a variety of combinations, this workshop explores the juxtaposition of sinuous, grounded bellydance technique with explosive, high impact movement qualities.

We heard you, and we know how much y'all like Kamrah's combos, so we made it a class series! Fast spins, glute-focused technique (with some layering!), and liquid arms, all come together for a new combo every two weeks. We'll drill technique and learn the combo the first week, then the second week will be refining technique and the combo.

What is on-demand? Online classes at Arcanum are NOT live streamed. We record our classes with a wall-mounted camera and upload them onto their respective online course shells. This angle allows students to easily follow along with the instructor with an unobstructed view.

Offering on-demand class recordings allows our remote students to access our classes. This is also convenient for students who miss class or sign up for a series after it's already started. You can catch up missed classes or review the recordings for your own practice!
