DMX was the 1st Rap tape I ever bought with my own money. Get At Me Dog the single lol. It had rap songs on it, the explicit lyrics and the barking of course lol.... but what always stood out to me was he had poetry on there as well. Poetry with no beat, just words and convictions. One of the only artists I can ever remember doing that. And for that to be one of my first tapes I bought, it definitely helped my formative years as an artist. I couldn’t be more grateful to him for that. His honesty and outside of the box thinking made X the legend he is. But hearing all the stories many had of him, and seeing all the pictures he stopped to take with random strangers, I know his heart is what he would be remembered most for. He prayed for us in the streets when nobody was praying for us. He really was Hip Hop’s Angel. Earl Simmons was an artist who while facing many challenges did not give up on his faith and fighting them. In sharing his prayers, struggles and victories through his art he strengthened us all. He was the Heavy Metal of Hip Hop Music. RIP Dark Man X ❌🙏🏾🕊
