Hero days are cool…and there is a time for them…but small deposits add up to much larger gains!

Intensity…train where you are CURRENTLY…not where you hope to be!

Patience…the real racing is still months away. You don’t have to be “race fit” right now. Patience…it will all come together!

It’s not about times, it’s not about placing, it’s not about qualifying…it’s more than that.

I’m Rick, an 18x Ironman and 6x Kona qualifier. I’ve helped 100’s of athletes earn their worlds slot…but today’s lesson is far greater than any of that.

Today is about providing something bigger than me, it’s about using the physical gifts God has gifted me to provide an experience for someone else, it’s about being an example for my kids, for my athletes, it’s about something far greater than me, it’s about trust and leadership, it’s emotional, it’s heavy and it’s not lost on me.

Today I’m lining up…not for me…but for someone who would give anything to NOT need me. Today I’m the legs for someone who’s don’t work properly any longer.

Today I’m pushing a man with ALS to another Chicago Marathon finish line.

There is not much else in my sporting life that compares to the emotions this experience brings, and for someone I literally met for the first time in person 12 hours ago.

This will make some people upset. The thing about that is…I simply don’t care! Why? Because I think big…I want more…and I want athletes who want more!

I don’t look at the off-season as a time to relax…a time to back down…I look at the off-season as an OPPORTUNITY.

An opportunity to grow, build a bigger base, get stronger, have a better feel for the water, hold more power for longer, run more effortless, eat cleaner, and quite honestly to get F’n better!

Athletes who succeed year in and year out are those who put in the work day after day, regardless of whether they want to or not. High achievers recognize the importance. Not everyone can hang…and that’s fine. But for athletes who are motivated, want to be pushed and truly want to break through to the next level comment Tri below…let’s get started!
