Two Texas high school students, Victoria Ou and Justin Huang, have stunned the world with a pen-sized ultrasonic device that removes up to 94% of microplastics from water using sound waves. Muslims in Texas say the law isn't about protection — it's about painting their faith as a threat.

In September 2025, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 4211, which he framed as banning "Sharia compounds" in the state. The law was a direct response to EPIC City, a proposed 400-acre Muslim-centric housing development in Collin County that would include 1,000 homes, a mosque, and a school. Abbott said the development would force residents to live under Sharia law and restrict property sales to Muslims only.

The bill itself does not mention Sharia or Islam. It regulates housing developments to prevent discriminatory practices and religious restrictions on property sales over 25 acres. The EPIC City developers said the community was open to all faiths and even supported the bill. The U.S. Department of Justice investigated and closed the case after developers affirmed inclusivity.

Texas is not the first state to pass such a law. Oklahoma, Kansas, and Tennessee enacted similar foreign law bans years earlier.
