Team Drachenflieger, established April 10th 2012, is a team of five students that have worked tirelessly to earn a bid in the 2012 Red Bull Flugtag.
We will compete on September 8th in the B1G Division, representing Michigan State University! Our team is a group of dedicated and outgoing students. Three of us are previous or current Resident Mentors at Michigan State University. Two members are Eagle Scouts, which is the highest attainable rank in the Boy Scouts of America. One of our members is a current ROTC student at Michigan State Univers

MSU team hopes flying machine shows some glide at Flugtag Oh, those magificent men and their flying machines. There was Leonardo DaVinci, who conceived of them in the 1400s. There were the Wright Brothers, who got one off the ground at Kitty Hawk in 1903.

Here is a little bio Red Bull Flugtag wrote about us: “Sprechen sie Deutsch?” If your answer is “ja,” you’re bound to appreciate the upstart undergrads in Team Drachenflieger. “Red Bull Flugtag is a celebration of flight and the Austrian roots of Red Bull,” says captain David Gaunt. “We play into the German-speaking theme by calling ourselves Team Drachenflieger, and we will wear traditional Bavarian garb for our skit.” In terms of the aircraft, David says that “consideration has been given to the airfoil shape, the angle of attack on the tail, and the center of gravity versus center of lift.” Sounds like a winner, but even if these guys unceremoniously crash into Lake Michigan, at least we’ll get to enjoy some schadenfreude.
