🥊 UBF BOXING BRIEFING | MICHIGAN OFFICIALS’ CERTIFICATION DEADLINE

Michigan’s certification deadline for existing licensed referees and judges takes effect today, October 8. Officials may work only in combat-sport disciplines for which their certification has received departmental approval.

🌍 WHY IT MATTERS TO UBF

Before a UBF championship bout takes place in Michigan, the assigned officials’ certifications and commission approvals should be verified. This helps ensure officials are qualified for the specific discipline and supports clear communication with commissions, promoters, and participants.

🥊 UBF BOXING BRIEFING | TYRELL BOYD REMAINS CHAMPION

🇺🇸 TYRELL “IRON SOLDIER” BOYD — STILL A UBF CHAMPION!

The Universal Boxing Federation confirms that Tyrell Boyd retains his UBF All Americas, International and Inter-Continental Middleweight Championships.

Boyd also continues to receive international recognition, moving to No. 13 in the World Boxing Association’s middleweight rankings, up from No. 14.

Despite his recent loss to DeMarcus Layton on September 26, 2026, Boyd’s championship status remains unchanged.

OFFICIAL UBF CLARIFICATION:

The Boyd–Layton contest was NOT sanctioned by the Universal Boxing Federation and was NOT a UBF championship bout.

Consequently, no UBF championships were contested, defended or transferred. Layton did not acquire any UBF title through that victory.

🌍 WHY IT MATTERS

Championship recognition is determined through official sanctioning authorization, not assumptions made from promotional listings or third-party records.

The UBF remains committed to maintaining accurate championship records, protecting the integrity of its titles and recognizing fighters in accordance with federation regulations.

Congratulations to Boyd on his continued standing among the WBA’s world-ranked middleweights.

🥊 UBF BOXING BRIEFING | HANEY–STEVENSON NEGOTIATIONS

🔥 DEVIN HANEY PROPOSES 145-POUND SHOWDOWN WITH SHAKUR STEVENSON!

A potential meeting between two of boxing’s most accomplished young champions continues to generate discussion across the sport.

Devin Haney has publicly proposed facing Shakur Stevenson at 145 pounds without a rehydration clause, potentially in December 2026.

Stevenson previously favored a 144-pound catchweight, leaving the fighters separated by one pound in their publicly discussed terms.

However, no agreement has been confirmed, and neither a venue nor an official fight date has been finalized.

Both fighters hold WBO championships in neighboring divisions, making the proposed contest particularly significant.

🌍 WHY IT MATTERS

A showdown between Haney and Stevenson could influence championship obligations, rankings and future contender opportunities at both super-lightweight and welterweight.

For the Universal Boxing Federation, the proposed matchup illustrates how negotiated catchweights can influence championship planning and the competitive landscape across multiple divisions.

UBF ANALYSIS: Until contracts and sanctioning arrangements are finalized, this remains a proposed fight—not a confirmed championship contest.

🥊 UBF BOXING BRIEFING | HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE CONTROVERSY

🌍 MURAT GASSIEV QUESTIONS WBA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE STATUS

The heavyweight championship landscape faces questions following reports that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could compete for a newly designated WBA “Super” heavyweight championship.

Murat Gassiev, currently listed as the WBA heavyweight world champion, says he has received no direct notification concerning the reported arrangements.

The situation has raised questions about existing championship recognition, mandatory challenger rights and how multiple championship designations may be administered within the same weight division.

At present, the reported Fury–Joshua title arrangement has not been established through a publicly verified final WBA ruling.

🌍 WHY IT MATTERS

Professional boxing depends on transparent championship procedures that protect the rights of recognized champions and eligible contenders.

The Universal Boxing Federation believes that clearly defined championship obligations, documented sanctioning decisions and consistent application of federation regulations are essential to the integrity of professional boxing.

UBF ANALYSIS: Any changes to the WBA heavyweight championship structure could influence contender positioning and future opportunities throughout the division.

Until an official ruling is published, Gassiev’s status should be described according to the WBA’s current official records.

Absolutely — those accomplishments make the post much stronger.

Happy Birthday to Sonya “The Scholar” Lamonakis from the Universal Boxing Federation! 🥊🎂🏆

Sonya’s story has always represented much more than boxing. Outside the ring, she built a career as a New York City public school teacher, earning the nickname “The Scholar” while balancing education with a demanding professional boxing career.

Inside the ring, Sonya became the IBO World Female Heavyweight Champion and also captured the New York State female heavyweight title. She later challenged for the vacant UBF World Female Heavyweight Championship, including her 2017 world-title bout with Laura Ramsey.

Her contributions to women’s boxing were further recognized when she was inducted into the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame in 2023, placing her among the sport’s respected pioneers and champions.

Today, we celebrate a teacher, world champion, Hall of Famer, UBF world-title challenger, and lifelong ambassador for boxing.

Happy Birthday, Sonya. The UBF family wishes you continued health, happiness, success, and another champion year ahead. 🥊🌎🏆

💚 WORLD CEREBRAL PALSY DAY 💚

Today, October 6, we recognize World Cerebral Palsy Day — a day dedicated to raising awareness, promoting inclusion, and celebrating the strength, determination, and achievements of people living with cerebral palsy around the world.

Cerebral palsy affects millions of people globally, but it does not define their dreams, talents, potential, or ability to make an impact.

Today is about creating a world where everyone has the opportunity to participate, compete, learn, work, and live without unnecessary barriers.

In boxing and in life, courage comes in many forms. Some of the greatest fighters are not always the ones standing inside a ring — they are the people who overcome challenges every single day with determination and heart.

The Universal Boxing Federation proudly stands with the cerebral palsy community and their families, caregivers, advocates, teachers, therapists, and supporters.

💚 Awareness matters.
💚 Inclusion matters.
💚 Accessibility matters.
💚 Every person deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Together, we can help build a more inclusive world.
