What do you like most about owning and running your own business?
“I bought into an existing business with my husband; Keith and Denise Morton are the founding partners but we all have a role in the business. I enjoy the flexibility of having my own schedule and the opportunities that it brings. We can create our brand and our vision and we have freedom to make choices and act quickly.”

Why did you open your business in Lincoln Park?
“I am not sure why Lincoln Park was selected in 2002 when the business opened. I became a trainer in 2005 and a partner in 2006. The area was less busy but certainly vibrant with lots of room for growth and expansion.”

What has been your greatest success as a business owner?
“Providing a service that helps clients improve their vitality, balance and strength. This is a lifelong journey and having clients realize the many benefits to staying consistent with their strength training has been gratifying. Working with clients in their 60's, 70's and 80's and seeing them get stronger and continue living their best life is our greatest success.”

What is your top challenge as a business owner?
“Our workout is very niche, getting the word out and getting people to give it a try and buy in is a hurdle that we consistently face. We have a very loyal client and trainer base; we are grateful beyond belief for the support we have received from Lincoln Park. The pandemic has made this even more challenging; however in the past few weeks...things are improving dramatically and clients new and old are returning.”

What advice would you give others starting a new business?
“Be Yourself - Believe in What You Do - Authenticity is Key and Overdeliver whenever possible.”

We trainers often get asked, "What do you eat for breakfast?" For many of us, the answer is...nothing!

We often try not to eat breakfast --literally to break our fast-- for at least 12 hours after dinner. If you think about it, this pattern of eating was common only a generation ago, with dinner finished by about 7 p.m., breakfast around 7 a.m. Our digestive systems and our insulin levels had a nice, long break.

We 21st century residents, with our early-starting-never-ending workdays and late-night snax (Netflix and munch, anyone?) could benefit from a bit of an overnight break. Try it sometime, especially if you favor an early-morning workout. Who knows? The rotary torso machine might not be so fearsome on an empty stomach. 😁
