Rudy volunteered with Coach Dan at Palomares’ Celebra event in Rock Island today.

Palomares is an awesome organization which provides free meals, produce, clothes, and resources to those in need of help. Check them out!

Our program is filled with appreciation after this past Sunday.
The 28th Annual Dan McGinnis Golf Outing was a success!

The weather held up, fun was had, and we got to see many of our Pioneer families, friends, and supporters on the course.

So again, thank you to everybody who dedicated their time, resources, and day to Alleman Wrestling.

We are almost a week away from the 28th Annual Dan McGinnis Jr. Pioneer Wrestling Golf Outing! Sticking to the theme, we’re continuing to recognize the alumni who helped build our program.

Today, we’re highlighting The One, The Only, THE Mark Johnson.
Not only is he legendary in local circles, Coach Johnson is an absolute legend of the sport, compiling one of the most accomplished athletic/coaching resumes of all time.

1972 IHSA All-State Running Back for the Pioneers
1973 IHSA 167 lb State Runner-Up as a Senior (37-1) & USWF Freestyle National Champion
2x NCAA Finalist & 2x Academic All-American at the University of Michigan
1980 U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman Team Member at 90kg
223-48-5 career record as a collegiate head coach (Most Wins in U of IL history)
45 NCAA All-Americans & 7 NCAA Champions with Fighting Illini Wrestling
1995 National Coach of the Year
2001 & 2005 BIG Ten Coach of the Year

After his competitive career, Mark coached under Dan Gable at the University of Iowa, first as a graduate assistant from 1978-80 and later as an assistant from 1982-90. He went on to become the head coach at Oregon State before taking over at Illinois in 1992, where he built one of the top programs in the country.

Despite everything Mark has accomplished in this sport, what stands out just as much is the person he is. He is one of the most genuine humans you’ll meet, and to this day, he remains a huge supporter of Alleman Wrestling and our kids.

We’re proud that his incredible career started as a Pioneer, and even more proud that he continues to remain an integral part of our program, helping the generations that have followed him.

We look forward to celebrating that history and reconnecting with our alumni, friends, and supporters on September 13!
