OPEN HOUSE/STUDENT APPRECIATION EVENT
I am finally in a studio space that feels like home. I have actually been here for a year now and I want to celebrate the space and all of YOU!
After I bought my first studio, I thought I had to follow the rules that everyone who has a studio does - keep growing the group classes, storefront space with visible signage, etc. It turns out that if I do what I’m drawn to and best suited for - private and duet sessions in an intimate space, success and calm will follow.
My new space, at 4507 N. Ravenswood, Unit 108, is private (no passersby interrupting or peering in), airy (high ceilings with wood beams), light-filled (for my plants). I hope you will come by to see it if you haven’t been here yet. And, if you come on a regular basis, please swing by and bring a friend or two.
Date: 8/23 3pm-5pm
• Current students: if your friend purchases a new student package (3 sessions for $300), you get one free session (valued at $130)
• New students/friends/curious acquaintances, please stop by and say hi!
• Come and see the art studio next door. My next door neighbor is a fabulous artist names Linda Cohn. https://www.lindacohnart.com Linda will have artwork for sale and you get to see inside her studio and get more information about her upcoming classes.

Wishing you health & happiness and a year full of Pilates in 2022!

Pilates keeps you centered no matter what stress is going on in your life. While you are at Pilates, there are no calls or texts to answer, no kids to tend to and no traffic to navigate. It is an hour to recharge and center yourself with some self care. You'll leave feeling great and ready to take on the world.

This post applies to so much more than fitness and health! It may be a cliche, but I've found it's nearly always true. Great things take time, and I learn new things that help me in all the areas of my life! However -- you can't eat clean for 2 days and expect life changing results -- everything is a process!

We know that Pilates isn't the exact same thing as happiness, but read on to see the things Pilates can do for you!
Pilates strengthens the muscles and improves balance. It also sharpens our mental faculties. Emphasis on breathing technique and mindful thinking can help to reduce stress and anxiety, enhance concentration, and even improve sleeping habits. Pilates can improve your focus both on and off the mat, strengthening your mind and your memory. ~Sandwood 2018

Showing up for yourself and finding time to move your body....that's what gives you more energy in your life, that's what help your body feel more flexible and strong, that is what gives you results from your exercise time. The exercises you are doing will never be "perfect" and that's ok!! Have fun doing them the best you can in your body and appreciate the strength and flexibility you are gaining!

One of the things I love about teaching Pilates is helping people achieve their health goals. The Pilates equipment that Joseph Pilates invented both assists and challenges clients as they learn the Pilates method. Pilates is age and fitness level friendly! One of the common misconceptions about Pilates is that it's for "younger" people or people that can "twist themselves into a pretzel" and it's so rewarding to watch clients grow through their Pilates practice. If you love Pilates and you're interested in teaching the Pilates method, message me for more information on my Pilates teacher training program.

What is deep breathing, really? How are we misunderstanding it and how can we use it to help regulate our health?
Breathing is this invisible function that our bodies perform automatically, but we can influence and control our breath.
For years I did not understand how to control my breath. Having been diagnosed with asthma around age 10, I was given medication, but never any therapy that could teach me proper breathing techniques. I have now been medication-free for over 3 years and can control my breath with some simple exercises.
I offer private and group breath work training at my studio.

It is safe to say that you are aware that exercise is healthy. Still, for many, the word “exercise” is weighed down with feelings of stress and obligation. When did the simple act of moving your body become such a drag? Another word for exercise is simply movement. Moving should never be burdensome as it is one of your body’s most basic functions!
Movement is one of the most basic functions of the human body—and so healthy! Don’t let exercise become burdensome to you. By focusing on the goal as “movement” rather than “working out,” you can find ways to incorporate motion into your daily life in a way that feels good. Soon you will reap the benefits of motion and feel good while doing it.

Pilates is for every body, every age and every fitness level. You might come to Pilates for pain relief, for stress relief, or some me-time. No matter what brings you to Pilates, you will not regret it.
