A year ago, J/7 hull #2 landed on our doorstep right at the start of the season in Chicago. As one of the newest J/Boats dealers, it was a real thrill to be the ones putting the newest model through its paces, and we're grateful to J/Boats for making it happen in time for the season. Here's what a full year with the boat actually looks like.

More love for the J7!

The J/Boats J7 is among the coolest yacht launches this year.

J/Boats, long-time builders of extremely slippery, quick hulls while studiously avoiding fads and trends, has just unveiled the new 23ft J/Boats J7 daysailer. Aimed at entry-level buyers, this boat is comparatively inexpensive at €60,000 inc VAT and sails.

J/Boats is hoping that coastal and lake sailors, as well as sailing schools and clubs looking for one-design keel boats that all can sail, will find this appealing.

It is the same length as the hugely popular J/70. The hull is beamier midships, with a much heavier keel, meaning this boat doesn't need people to hike out on the sides to maximise sailing.

Everything has been stripped right back to be as simple as possible, with minimal string. But crucially, the controls are top quality and powerful, such as the backstay. If other J/Boats are anything to go by, this will be a hugely fun boat to sail with the absolute minimum to potentially go wrong.

There’s a small cuddy in the large cockpit. Surprisingly, there is space for a double berth forward and two quarterberths under the cockpit seating. With her stability, you could certainly cruise her short-handed, though you’d need an adventurous disposition to do so for more than a night.

Bon… Il y a encore quelques petites questions à régler :
– la taille
– le budget
– faire accepter la monotypie à la Classe IMOCA
– et peut-être… 2 ou 3 mètres de plus sous plafond 😅

Mais sinon, tout est prêt.

Pour débuter cette collaboration avec J Composites, nous allons naviguer ensemble ce week-end lors du Spi Ouest France sur un J/99.

Hull #1874 is NEW (never launched) and available for sale/delivery this spring. At the minimum class weight with 6kg of corrector, this is the only new J/70 available with no tariff and with the pricing rolled back to 2024 levels at $55,900.

The first J/24 was built in the Johnstone's garage in 1978 and almost five decades later, J/Boats is now a global company with design, manufacturing and thriving sailboat fleets worldwide. As the company approaches its 50th Anniversary, President Jeff Johnstone will share the story of the garage-built 24-footer that launched the Newport-based sailboat company. He will also present the pivotal moments and designs over the years that led to the new J/7 which debuts in Sail Newport's new keelboat this May.
