The first two years that qualifying for Generation Adidas Cup was available to elite academies, our club, Sockers FC Chicago earned its place both times. Last year, I had the opportunity to be part of the staff as the GK coach. This year, I had the honor of leading our U16s as head coach.

This experience gave us a lot — lessons as a team, as individuals, and as a staff and club. We came here wanting to compete against top opposition both domestically as well as internationally, test our limits, and introduce our boys to what top competition feels like. This group fought for every moment and grinded until the final whistle in every match; no quit – committed to maintaining a winning mentality.

A lot learned. A lot gained.

Special shoutout to our two GKs — I’ve worked with them since they were young, and to watch them grow into leaders who step up in the biggest moments is special. Massive saves in the final to push us into penalties, and then two huge saves during pens to clinch it. That’s composure. That’s development. That’s years of work paying off.

As a club, this one means even more knowing that half (or more) of this group started with between U9–U12. Years of training, setbacks, and growth. In 3 out of 4 years of NAC we’ve now had a team win their age group.

Across the weekend, our three teams played 18 games and conceded just 2 goals total: 15 wins • 1 tie • 2 losses.

Class goalkeeping. Collective commitment. Long-term development facilitated by and staff on display.
