Five decades of Natya’s artistic journey are now becoming part of a larger archive.

On October 8, Natya Dance Theatre will present its archives at The Newberry Library, where they will be housed and preserved for future generations. The evening will also feature Hema Rajagopalan sharing stories from Natya’s history through archival material and footage, a short Bharatanatyam performance, an exploration of costumes and textiles by Sandhya Raman, and an excerpt from Rana Seghal’s documentary on Hema.

Alakshaya: The Invisible Veil explored the things that cloud our vision, from human desire and our relationship with nature to destruction and renewal.

Choreographed by Hema Rajagopalan and Krithika Rajagopalan, the production brought these ideas to life through the language of Bharatanatyam, with intricate rhythms, expressive movement, live music and powerful ensemble formations.
