We had our first bear track of the season this morning and Tikka had us standing over this bear in just a few minutes! It was so thick that I was crawling on my hands & knees behind her and you couldn’t see this bear until you’re almost stepping on it. This bear only left a little blood at the hit site and nothing more. Congrats Brent! Good job Tikka!!

Most of you know our dogs, but since we took this fun picture I have to share it, so figured I’d introduce them 😊 Tikka (left) and Ammo (right) are Bavarian Mountain Hounds and we track wounded deer and bear for hunters. They are both UBT 1 and UBT 2 certified. As exciting as it is to earn a certificate and ribbon, these represent so much more than just passing a test. They represent the countless hours we’ve spent behind them, the bonds we share with them, the trust we have in each other, and of course all of the deer they’ve recovered and all the happy hunters they’ve made. We sure are blessed to walk behind these dogs! Season opener can’t get here soon enough! 33 days! But who’s counting, lol 🤷‍♀️

Sharing this here because we love our tracking family and I’m sure many of you would like an update.
One year ago today our lives were turned upside down. My husband, Mike, was having headaches, which then turned to brain fog/confusion. What we thought would be a quick trip to the ER, turned into a Stage IV cancer diagnosis and being told he only has a year to live. The cancer was everywhere and metastasized so quickly that we still don’t know where it actually started, however they did determine this is from the burn pits while he was deployed. August 4th 2025 Mike had brain surgery to remove the largest 3 tumors in his brain (there was over 20 in his brain alone). Shortly after surgery, he had full brain radiation treatments. After radiation, he went right into chemo treatments. When the chemo stopped working, immunotherapy was the next option. Since they don’t know exactly where the cancer started, the docs had no idea if this immunotherapy would work or not. His last scans showed that it is working, praise God! Today Mike is very fatigued, tired, and weak.. but he’s here and he’s fighting! I’m praying it’s the immunotherapy healing his body and it will improve 🙏 We don’t take anything for granted and every single day is a blessing ❤️ We are so thankful for all of you and for all the prayers!

Ammo took her UBT 2 (United Blood Tracker) test on Friday and she rocked it! The track was laid Thursday evening and it rained quite a bit during the night so there was no blood to be seen. She also had an unexpected distraction, a bear had recently crossed her track and left a very fresh pile of p**p near her line. I couldn’t be more proud of how Ammo worked thru this and got back on the line. Good girl Ammo! Huge thanks to all of the judges!
