Today we’re shining the spotlight on someone who has been a backbone of Octorara Area Little League for years — Denim Kurtzhals, or as so many of you know him, Coach K! ❤️⚾️

Denim has dedicated countless hours to this league and to our players, and the impact he has made goes far beyond the baseball field. From coaching and teaching to simply being there for our players and families, his commitment to Octorara Little League does not go unnoticed.

We are incredibly thankful for everything you do, Coach K! Thank you for giving your time, sharing your knowledge, creating memories, and helping make this league the special place that it is. We are lucky to have you! ❤️💙

⚾ Coaches Corner

1. What inspired you to volunteer as a coach?
My father was my initial inspiration to volunteer as a coach, as he was my coach when I played baseball.

2. What is the most important lesson you hope your players learn this season?
This season, I hope our team learns the importance of teamwork.

3. What has been your proudest coaching moment so far?
My proudest coaching moment this season was when the team won the District 23 Championship.

4. What advice would you give to a player who is struggling or feeling discouraged?
The best advice I would give to a player who is struggling or feeling discouraged is: “HAVE FUN and enjoy the game.”

5. What is your favorite part about being involved with Octorara Area Little League?
My favorite part about being involved with Octorara Area Little League is the amazing friends we have made throughout the years.

⚾ THIS WEEK’S COACHING CORNER: COACH MONTY! ⚾

This week, we’re proud to spotlight Coach Monty from our Majors Division!

We appreciate everything you do for our players and Octorara Little League! ❤️💙⚾

What inspired you to volunteer as a coach?

I grew up playing youth baseball, and I remember how practices and games could sometimes be the best part of my day. I wanted to give that same experience to the next generation. Coaching gives me the opportunity to help kids enjoy the game, build confidence, and create memories they’ll carry with them long after the season ends.

What is the most important lesson you hope your players learn this season?

I want them to learn to believe in themselves. Baseball can be a game of failure, and learning how to respond when things don’t go your way is just as important as learning how to hit, throw, or catch. My goal is for every player to become a better version of themselves—not just as a baseball player, but as a teammate, friend, and person.

What has been your proudest coaching moment so far?

My proudest moments aren't necessarily about winning games. They're the moments when I see a player do something they didn't think they could do—make a play they've been working on, step up in a difficult situation, or simply show more confidence than they had before. Seeing that growth and watching a player start to believe in themselves is incredibly rewarding.

What advice would you give to a player who is struggling or feeling discouraged?

Don't let one at-bat, one play, or one bad game define you. Baseball is a game of failure, and even the best players in the world fail more often than they succeed. Take a breath, learn from it, and keep going. Trust the work you've put in and remember that your coaches and teammates believe in you. Confidence isn't about never struggling—it's about knowing you can keep going when you do.

What is your favorite part about being involved with Octorara Little League?

It's the community. I love seeing kids come together, make friends, compete, encourage each other, and just enjoy being kids. Being part of Octorara Little League gives me the chance to contribute to something bigger than baseball—to help create an environment where kids feel supported, challenged, and confident. That's what makes it special.
