NRV Traditional Karate offers Shotokan Karate and women's self defense classes. The class is rooted in traditional Japanese rituals and training methods. Students practice kicks, punches, blocks, kata, and sparring (kumite). Students progress at their own pace with no pressure to advance too quickly in belt rank. Students are taught drills using pads and other equipment as well as strength and flexibility exercises.

In class today, we worked on testing that frame. When a partner pushes on your structure or checks your blocks in kata, you shouldn't shift an inch. If the root is solid, the technique holds!

Most practitioners focus only on driving the kick out, but the secret to a powerful side thrust kick is in the chamber and movement pathway.

Here’s a quick wall drill to lock in your mechanics:
1️⃣ Start with your foot extended against the wall in full kick position.

2️⃣ Pull back into a tight chamber without letting your knee drop.

3️⃣ Drive back out to lightly tap the wall.

You’re not trying to kick through the wall—the goal is to build smooth hip engagement, balance, and control.
