The next version on the Baby Bolts (12U) kicked off their fall season with 3 wins today. The team got quality pitching as 4 different pitchers pitched effectively. Great start to their fall season and hopefully the team can add a player or 2 to round out their roster.

The next tournament that the Churchville Lightning 14U & 18U teams are playing in is the USSSA Home Runs for Hope on September 26-27. USSSA will be donating a portion of the team registration fees to Just In Power Kids. It is an organization that benefits local families as they tackle a diagnosis that no one wants to hear…Cancer. Funds are used for many things, including paying for parking, food, Power pack backpacks filled with things to do while stuck in the hospital, medical necessities not covered by insurance and funeral expenses.

They are also having a contest to see which team can raise the most money for Just In Power Kids. The top 2 teams will win a free registration to one USSSA tournament next year, a hitting net, & two dozen softballs. Please help the Churchville Lightning Softball teams raise money for a very worthy cause. We truly appreciate anything you can donate.

Congratulations to 18U newcomer Taylor Martinovich. Taylor picked up her first pitching victory in her first Lightning start. Hopefully, many more victories are in store for the right hander.

The Churchville, Lightning 16/18U team won 3 games today to start out their fall season. Alaina Torrence jumpstarted the offense in game 1 with a grand slam home run her first as an 18U player.

Dan Funk Scholarship Program -- Exclusive to Lightning Players

Thanks to all who participated in the annual golf outing to support the Dan Funk Legacy Foundation. As part of this year’s efforts, the Foundation will be providing scholarship dollars to be used for private school, college, or trade school or the money can be used to support a player’s youth sports involvement.

Any Lightning player past or present is eligible for these scholarships and in order to apply for a scholarship, applicants need to write an essay describing a coach that has positively impacted their lives.

These essays can be emailed to [email protected] and a selection committed will read the essays and select 3 winners. 1st Place will receive $1000, 2nd Place will receive $750 and 3rd Place will receive $250.

Essays must be received by September 28, 2026.

Special consideration will be given to those who write about Coach Dan, but the committee recognizes that many new players did not get to meet Coach Dan, so you are free to write about any coach that has made a positive impact in your life.

Some of the Lightning ladies served the community today. They participated in the Team Maryland Adaptive Sports Operation Inspire. United States Veterans & Youth from the Miracle League of Harford County who have physical disabilities took part in the therapeutic recreation event.

The ladies volunteered as buddies and helped to foster confidence, inclusion, & skill development through an adaptive recreation softball game. The Limitless Legends defeated the Game Changers with a walk off hit in the bottom of the 6th inning in a highly competitive contest.

Hopefully these young ladies have a new appreciation for their athletic abilities & how those with disabilities have the drive to accomplish anything despite their challenges. When they get tired during practice or a game they can look back to this day & keep pushing.

6PM -- Currently, the field is ready. But it is rains -- we'll move to 3036 Churchville Road, Churchville, MD 21028 -- the Lightning's indoor facility. It's only 2.5 miles from the field which is located at 2023 E. Churchville Rd., Bel Air, MD 21015 (Grace Assembly of God Church).
