You've been hearing from me a lot. Time you heard about Aaron.
Aaron Morris is my business partner, our head instructor, and the reason there's a competitor pipeline built into this school from day one.

17+ years teaching. Judson HS alum. Texas State alum. Helped launch a kids' ministry at Cornerstone Church for kids on the spectrum. Coached the Texas State Judo team to a 3rd-place State finish.
But here's what a resume doesn't tell you:
Aaron is the coach who stays 40 minutes after class to help one white belt figure out why they can't hip escape. He's the guy who remembers what your goals were three months ago and asks about them without prompting. He's driven to more of my kids' events than some of their extended family.
He was going to keep coaching wherever he ended up. We just decided we'd rather build something ourselves where the room reflects the coach, and the coach reflects the room.
That's Agora. That's Aaron.

There's a book called Transforming Trauma with Jiu Jitsu. If you haven't read it and you're a clinician, a parent, a survivor, or someone who's ever wondered why the mats feel like coming home, get it.
For those who don't know me in that context: I'm a Doctor of Nursing Practice and a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Trauma is my clinical specialty. I teach it. I speak on it. I treat it every single day.
I know what nervous system dysregulation looks like when it walks into a room, and I know what jiu jitsu does to it.
BJJ isn't a hobby I bolted onto my clinical work, they're the same job. Every roll is polyvagal theory in practice. Every tap is boundary work. Every belt is evidence that a body can learn safety again. Every training partner is a rep of co-regulation.
For kids with ACEs. For first responders carrying secondary trauma. For women who've spent years disconnected from their own bodies. For men who've never had a language for what they're carrying. The mats are one of the very few places I've watched consistently move the needle.
It's not a marketing line. It's a clinical observation from someone who's been doing both jobs for a long time and uses it in my day-to-day healing journey.
Agora is a jiu jitsu school. It's also, quietly, a trauma-informed room. Because I don't know how to build any other kind.

SHOUT OUT TO OUR BUILDER!!!!!!!
There's a moment when a small business owner decides to actually do it.
Not to talk about it, not to dream about it. Do it. Sign the paperwork. Hire the people. Take the risk. Trust yourself (kind of???) and a few carefully chosen humans that this could actually work.
Beth at KE Construction & Renovation NBTX () knows that moment. She lives on the other side of it every day, running her own build company. She and her husband are building the physical spaces other people's dreams live in.
When we sat down to talk about the Agora project, something happened that I didn't expect. We connected. Not just as builder and client, but as two women running small businesses who both remember what it felt like to jump. Two moms who have taken the time to build something...who both know the weight of being the person other people are counting on. Who both wake up some mornings thinking "what did I just sign up for?" and then go do it anyway.
We decided to take this plunge together.
She's building the room where our community will finally have a home. She's doing it while running her own life, her own business, her own version of exactly what we're doing.

I feel like I've told the story a thousand times, and I will tell it a thousand more. Why build a Jiu-Jitsu gym in the City of Cibolo ?

Because my daughter Siri lived here from the time she was 2 years old. She went to Sipple Elementary, Schlather Intermediate, and Steele High School. She ate peanut butter and jelly pizza from Catalano's. She swung on the swings at Schlather Park. She ate ice cream at The Scoop.
Siri died by su***de 10 months ago today.

Last night, our city honored her memory and the memory of others, and took a stand that can be uncomfortable, and hard.
Last night, our city delivered proclamations that September 8th of 2026 would be honored in Siris name as Fi***rm Su***de Awareness Day.
They didn't just present us with a proclamation. The city council meeting invited Cibolo PD to share Project Child Safe information, and they made gun locks available at the meeting. They put her picture on a board with other community members who died by Su***de. They provided information on su***de prevention. Go by City hall, it's in the lobby.

Siri mattered to this community. Siri MATTERS to this community.

That's why Cibolo.

Labor Day, and the "labor" looks like drilling side control at 8am because the mats don't care what Monday it is.
Some of y'all are grilling. Some are at the lake. Some of us are still trying to figure out what to do with an unloaded truck of mats.... (Not me, yet 🤣)

There's a version of this story where we open a gym off 1604(we looked at space in the Forum) or over in Schertz proper (a big warehouse was on our list). Bigger addressable market. More foot traffic. Easier build. Every business person we've ever talked to had thoughts.
We didn't want that version.
Cibolo is where our kids go to school. Where I still serve on the SCUCISD health advisory council. Where Aaron and I have spent years driving to practices, rec games, orthodontists, and doctor's appointments in a 15-mile radius. This isn't a market to us. It's home.
When people ask why we chose Cibolo, we don't have a marketing answer. We have a life answer:
You don't open a jiu jitsu school in the town where you're raising your kids because it's the smartest move on a spreadsheet. You do it because those kids, and their friends, and their teachers, and the neighbor whose dog you feed when they're out of town, all deserve a place where they are invested in. Valued.
Doors open mid-November, but the community part started a decade ago.

We could have sourced our merch for ANYWHERE and for WAY cheaper.
There are 4,000 companies from a Google search that will print you a shirt, embroider you a beanie, ship you a rash guard, or make you a candle. Cheap, fast, no relationship. Seriously, you should see the junk mail in my in-box.
