A new surface and a lot more room to play! We just wrapped up a pour-in-place installation in Upper Arlington, and it's the kind of project that speaks for itself. One continuous surface under every slide, spring rider, and climbing wall on this playground, smooth, safe, and built to hold up through every season this park sees.
A steadier surface with less upkeep for a community that leans on this space constantly- a playground that's ready the moment kids show up. Proud to add this one to the list!

Is there someone who teaches a kid they can climb higher than they thought...? Or is that what a playground does...
Every "I dare to try the tall slide!", the "Watch this!" shout before a jump, it's all confidence being built in real time. Not the kind you tell a kid they have, the kind they find out for themselves.
That's the part of our job we take most seriously. Build the space right, safely, and accessibly, and kids figure out what they're capable of without anyone having to say a word.

We know shade. Literally and otherwise. Courtyards. Fields. Plazas. Common spaces where people actually gather. Shade isn't an afterthought in any of it; it's what makes a space usable in the midst of summer instead of empty.
We also believe in: straight answers, honest timelines, no surprises buried in the fine print. One team, one point of contact, from first sketch to last shovel. We know shade. We don't throw it.

This is what today is for. Hanging from the monkey bars until your arms shake. Racing a friend to the top of the climber. Swinging high enough that your stomach drops a little. Sharing a bench with your sibling because the best stories always happen mid-play, not after it.
National Play Outside Day isn't asking for anything complicated.
Just this.
Kids being kids, outside, making the most of the space in front of them.
We build the spaces. Moments like these are the reason why.

Today, on National Parents Day, we're celebrating exactly that. The new InPlay pitch at Bernadette Park in City of Newport, KY, built in partnership with the FC Cincinnati Foundation is officially open, and watching parents cheer their kids onto that turf for the first time reminded us why we do this work.
Play doesn't happen by accident, but it also doesn't require a parent on the sideline every single time. It happens because parents make it possible, through encouragement, and phrases yelled like "go have fun!" and "be safe!" as they run out the door. Every swing set, pitch, and playscape MotzScapes builds is an extension of that trust: a safe place for kids to play, explore, and grow, whether a parent is cheering from the bleachers or cheering them on from home.
To every parent who's ever shown up to watch, and every parent who's had to be somewhere else while wishing they could, this one's for you. You're still the reason these spaces get filled with laughter. Thank you for making play matter.

Certain weeks, the weather becomes part of the project. And last week's heat meant adjusting schedules across many of our jobs to keep crews safe. At CHCA's elementary campus, a little shade and a smaller footprint let our team keep moving while doing what they do best.
One playground closer to welcoming students back. And plenty of reasons to appreciate the people behind every project.

Some of our favorite memories don't have an address we can remember.
Sometimes they happen at the neighborhood park, the one you can navigate to in your sleep. The need to know the address is pointless. It's at the playground where we learned to climb a little higher. The splash pad that gave the hottest days the most relief. The one specific trail you wandered that became an entire summer worth of adventure. The field where pickup games somehow lasted until sunset.
This July, we're celebrating the wonderful outdoor opportunities our Parks and Recreation systems provide all month! Visit that favorite park that holds those memories. Even better, try a new park! Pack a picnic, take the long hike through the woods. Stay outside until the lighting bugs tell you it's too dark to play any longer. And don't forget to hydrate.
Happy National Parks & Recreation Month from all of us at MotzScapes.

The best playgrounds aren't the ones children immediately notice... well, sometimes they are... But really, the best ones let kids focus on being kids. There are games to organize, rules to negotiate, imaginary worlds to build, lifelong friendships to make, and seemingly endless energy to burn.
Envirofill® helps support playground environments designed for everyday adventures, from recess and field days to the countless games children invent on the spot. A great playground doesn't need to demand attention.... It just needs to be ready when kids arrive!
