Dear Lobs for Literacy friends,
Through your generosity in the past eight years, we have raised almost $30,000 and helped 100 girls to continue their high school education. We are seeking your support to continue this legacy.
Due to Covid-19, 1.5 billion children and youth are out of school globally. While for some students here, these school closures will only be a temporary shift in their schooling before they’re back on track, for many in the communities that Room to Read serves, this could mean the end of their education. Teenage girls out of school may never return.
In keeping with CDC guidelines, we will not be able to hold a tennis social event this year. However, we hope that you would consider making a donation to support this critical work of keeping the world's most vulnerable children to complete their secondary school education.
Each donation of $25 or above will be automatically entered into a raffle for a chance to win a one-week vacation resort anywhere in the world by RCI. The winner will be announced on the web page below on Feb. 28.
Our fundraising goal is to help 12 girls continue their education. When girls stay in school, life improves for everyone. For a girl in the most under-served parts of the world, staying in school longer means she is more likely to build a smaller and healthier family, lower her probability of contracting HIV, and earn a higher wage. She is also more likely to marry later and educate her own children — ending the cycle of illiteracy in one generation.
How You Can Help:
$25 fills an entire bookshelf.
$50 teaches a child how to read for one year.
$100 gives one girl a year of confidence-building life skills education.
$300 keeps her in secondary school with a supportive mentor for an entire year.
