Brandon Phillipsā physical orientation was rotated 180 degrees away from the advancing runner, Villar.
This specific orientation left the fielderās dorsal side fully exposed to the oncoming baseline trajectory.
Villar initiated a headfirst slide directly into the posterior region of Phillipsā lower torso.
Simultaneous to the physical contact, Phillips executed a blind, descending reach between his own legs with his left arm.
Under OBR Rule 5.09(b)(4), a runner is out if touched by a live ball securely held in a hand or glove.
Physical evidence confirms the leather of Phillipsā gloveācontaining the live ballāmade direct contact with Villarās torso.
This tag contact was firmly established prior to Villarās lead hand achieving contact with the second-base canvas.
Following the impact, the umpire verified that the ball remained firmly lodged in the glove pocket throughout the collision.
The fielder demonstrated complete voluntary control of the ball, negating any possibility of a dropped-ball ruling.
No defensive obstruction occurred as the fielder was legally positioned to make a play on a thrown ball.
The tag was determined to be fully compliant with all technical specifications of the MLB rulebook.
The runner was officially declared out. Subscribe to Riverfront Territory on YouTube for more Reds contentā¼ļø

Itās one of my favorite anecdotal Reds facts because itās really such a tribute to the rich history as the first professional franchise in the history of sports.
Who do you think history will remember as the greatest Reds player, who is still on the team, who was also teammates with Joey Votto as a Red?
Who are some of your favorite old-time Reds players?
Comment the best stories youāve heard about historic Reds players (the kind that donāt shown up in the box score)
