Clare Pioneers Soccer

Clare Varsity Soccer was on the road tonight against Jackpine rival Gladwin.

Having enjoyed a steady diet of home cooking early in this season, it took the Pioneer offense awhile to adjust to the grass playing surface. Consequently, the Flying G’s would strike first, finding just enough space in the Pioneer defense to squeeze a shot past the outstretched mitts of keeper Tyler Thompson. The Pioneers would not find a way to breakthrough until Tucker Rowell would put his head on a Lincoln Warner corner kick to even the score with 15 minutes remaining in the opening half.

In the second half however, while the defense continued to quickly turn around any Gladwin attacks, the Pioneer offense would start to gain their footing, putting steady pressure on the Gladwin D. Those relentless attacks would eventually payoff and payoff again, as Rowell would add 2 more scores, both assisted by Sergio Jaimes, for a second consecutive hat trick to give the Pioneers a 2 goal cushion. The Clare defense would make sure that cushion was more than enough, while the offense would add another insurance goal in the finals minutes of the match on a Jaimes header from a Kolten Pung cross.

Final score, Clare 4 - Gladwin 1. The Pioneers sweep their season series with Gladwin (a feat the Clare seniors have not been able to accomplish before tonight) and run their record to 6-2-1 for the season. Next up, a tough road match against Hemlock on Friday afternoon (9/18 @ 4:30PM)

Clare Varsity Soccer squared off against the Pinconning Spartans tonight at Brookwood Athletic Complex for a Jackpine Conference Showdown. Entering the contest with a record of 5-2-1 and looking for a 2 consecutive victory, the Pioneers would not disappoint their home fans on this night either.

Pacing the Pioneer goal scorers tonight were Sergio Jaimes and Tucker Rowell, each netting a hat trick on the night, while Kolten Pung added a brace of his own. Jaimes added 2 assists as well for 5 total goal contributions for the match, while Pung also assisted twice, and Rowell and Bentlee Smedley each had one assist a piece.

Meanwhile, the defense was as stingy as ever, not allowing the Spartan offense a single shot on goal until 13 minutes into the second half. Tyler Thompson cleaned up both shots Pinconning was able to muster in the match to preserve another clean sheet as the Pioneers would go on to mercy the Spartans, 8-0.

Next up, a Conference Clash on the road against Gladwin this Wednesday night (9/16 @ 5PM).

Clare Varsity Soccer was back at it tonight as they hosted the Reed City Coyotes.

Eager to get back on track after a tough loss last night, it was all Pioneers from the opening kick tonight. Sergio Jaimes continued his torrid goal scoring pace, collecting 4 more in the match tonight, while Kolten Pung, Lincoln Warner, Tucker Rowell, and Ben McCaslin each added 1 goal a piece. Warner and Rowell also contributed with assists tonight (2 for Warner. 1 for Rowell), with assists also being credited to Carson Reihl (2) and Ethan Kingsbury (1).

Making sure it was well rounded effort, the defense also held up their end of the bargain, limiting the Coyote scoring opportunities to just a few shots on goal, which keepers Tyler Thompson and Sutton Klaus cleaned up without incident, combining for a Pioneer clean sheet as Clare mercied Reed City 8-0, running their record to 4 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw on the season.

The next Varsity match will be next Monday night (9/14 @ 7PM) when they host the Pinconning Spartans at Brookwood Athletic Complex.

Clare Varsity Boys were out on the pitch tonight against the Panthers from Standish-Sterling with both teams vying to remain in contention for the Jackpine Conference Crown.

Sergio Jaimes got the Pioneers rolling with an early goal, assisted by Tucker Rowell. However a penalty in the box and a couple of defensive letdowns left the Pioneers trailing 3-1 going into the half.

Down 2 scores, a motivated Clare team took to field in the second half determined get back into the match. Midway through the half Jaimes would score again on a PK to net himself a brace and another multi-goal match, while bringing the Pioneers to within a goal. A focused defense held up their end of the bargain, turning away any Panther threatening attacks and not allowing any second half goals. Meanwhile the Pioneer attack continued to look for an equalizer, generating several dramatic opportunities late in the contest, but ultimately was unable to break through, falling by a final score of 3-2.

Clare will look to bounce back tomorrow night against the Reed City Coyotes. That match will be played at Brookwood Athletic Complex at 6PM.

After being handed their first defeat of the season Monday night against Ogemaw Heights, the Pioneers looked to get back to their winning ways as they traveled to Shepherd to take on the Blue Jays. Frustrated with not finding the back of the net in their last match, Clare Varsity carried that extra motivation to finish their attacks tonight, and finish they did.

Kolten Pung lead all goal scorers tonight with 4 goals, while Sergio Jaimes added a hat trick of his own and Sutton Claus added another goal. Contributing with assists tonight were Ethan Kingsbury (2), Carson Reihl (2), Tucker Rowell (1), and Lincoln Warner (1). Meanwhile the defense held up their end of the bargain as well. Keepers Tyler Thompson, Sutton Claus, and Kolten Pung combined for a clean sheet as the Pioneers mercied the Blue Jays by a score a 8-0.

After a short holiday break, the Pioneers will look to continue their positive momentum next Wednesday evening (@ 7 PM), when they will attempt to defend their home turf against Standish-Sterling in another important conference match.
