Tagged Out Softball

08/25/2025

After finishing the season 11-1, the **Taggies** rolled into playoffs as the 2-seed and showed out. We opened with a 15-9 win over SOP, followed by a 14-8 victory over the Glove Handles. That set us up for a clash with the #1 seed Lumberjocks—Todd, Misty, and their crew gave us all we could handle, but we grinded out an 18-14 win to punch our ticket to the ship. After surviving the losers bracket, the Outlaws lined up as our final opponents. The game ended in fireworks when **Sean Fernandes** launched a walk-off blast in the 5th that put us over the mercy-rule threshold and crowned us champions.

But the real story of the weekend? **Our ladies.** Absolute dominance.

* **Julie** stuffed *Julia* in a locker and threw away the key, flashing Gold Glove hands at 2nd and keeping the offense moving.
* **Carolyn** owned first base with highlight-reel catches and even launched a 3-run bomb in the championship.
* **Annie** lived up to her “Banana Ball” reputation with clever trick plays, nonstop contact at the plate, and steady defense.
* **Kim Reed** was a menace, drilling shots down the 3rd base line and vacuuming up every ball hit near her at catcher.
* **Stef** literally competed at Women’s States (took 3rd!) then rushed over to give us her all—definition of commitment.
* And of course, **Holly**, our favorite captain, who kept the book, kept us honest, and kept hollering for her the entire way!

It took *everyone* to bring home the crown. The chemistry, the laughs, the effort—this group is special. 🏆💛🖤

Forgot to send this out last week. Thanks to all from Damaged Goods, Wolf Pack, Cereal Killerz, and Tagged Out for working on the field last Friday night before "B" playoffs.

We will be down at the field this week to help maintain it and keep it ready for "A" playoffs!

**Week 12 – The Finale Before the Mayhem**

Before the Taggies even stepped on the field, the day was already a win. Ben Blanchard, John Durgin, and Tim Rumrill rolled in fresh off a **Men’s State Championship** in Vermont. Huge props to Coach Kurt Blanchard for steering them to glory.

Meanwhile, Kim Reed’s son Gavyn was spotted attempting the **illegal-for-a-reason BMX trick**, the *Foot Drag Supremo*. Predictably, the trick that’s banned in all 50 states landed him in the ER instead of X Games. Rumor has it he still found time to flirt with every nurse in sight.

Game 12 had us up against **Nutz to Butz** in our regular season closer. We took it 19–3.

* **Shawn Bell** injured himself in the first inning at 1B catching a routine throw, proving even the simple plays can be hazardous.
* Two innings later, **Dave Russell** mirrored the feat with a pop fly in foul territory at 3B. Combined, they had two working legs, but stayed in the game.

In the most painful sentence I’ll ever type: **Dan Bell was unstoppable.**
3-for-3 with a HR, an inside-the-park HR, and a triple, plus a sliding grab in LF. It’s maddening to admit, and with any luck, I’ll never have to again. That said, he still made one bad throw to 3B because he thought Dave’s vertical exceeded two inches. (Spoiler: it doesn’t.)

We’ve got a bye week before playoffs, and judging by the limp count, we’ll need every second to recover.

**Game 11 against the Base Invaders was a blast!** *(Pun intended.)*

🔥 **Pitching Masterclass**
**Shawn “Randy Johnson” Bell** threw a *full-game shutout*, mowing through the Invaders and sealing a **17-0 win** via mercy rule in the 6th inning. But because both teams wanted a few more hacks, we played a bonus inning...

Enter **Daniel Bell**, stepping in to pitch for the unofficial 7th—and he **served up a home run on his first pitch**. Legacy moment? Maybe not.

💥 **Ben Blanchard** launched **four targeted rockets** at the second baseman, *despite clear instructions* that it was not cool. He’s now under investigation by the league’s “Unwritten Rules Committee.”

😬 **Julia** stepped up to the plate and notched her **second strikeout of the season.** We miss **Julie**—the one who hits missiles and doesn’t whiff.

🧊 **Quote of the Game**
From the stands, **young Bryce Fernandes** was overheard saying:

> *"My dad did nothing."*
> Which is rich, considering **Sean Fernandes** hit an **inside-the-park home run** while Bryce was... **licking rocks** in the dugout.

🥎 **Game 10 Recap – Tagged Out vs. The Diggas**
**Final Score: Tagged Out 20 – Diggas 5**
**Record: 9-1**

Another week, another *team effort win* as Tagged Out rolled to a **20-5 victory** over the always gritty **Diggas**.

🧠 **Pitching By Committee**

* **Robbie** started strong, giving up just 3 runs through 3 innings.
* **Shawn** took over in the 4th and somehow managed to **load the bases without giving up a run**, a feat mathematicians are still studying.
* **Tim** was *everywhere*, making elite plays at shortstop to keep Shawn’s ERA from ballooning, then **took the mound to close out the final two innings** like a boss.

💣 **Robbie’s Bat Was on Fire**
**2 Home Runs** and nearly a 3rd with an inside-the-park shot in the 7th... but in a *storybook twist*, **Ryan “Make-a-Wish” Beaulieu** entered from base coach purgatory to RF, and got a chance to hit the walkoff. Some say the pitcher lobbed it in underhand. Some say Ryan’s smile lit up the whole field. Either way—**magic**.

🧢 **Annie, Kim & Carolyn Came to Swing**
Both **Annie, Kim and Carolyn** were dialed in at the plate, crushing everything in sight.
Shawn even let Annie play 2nd base and—surprise!—**she didn’t suck.**

🥶 Ben and his Titanic sack was an iceberg in the night to these softballs. Eye witnesses say he almost put a hole in the fence with one of his swings. It has been confirmed that he had more hits than Sean, Holly, Durgin, and Julie combined. (Who cares if they werent here.)

🚀 **Team Firing on All Cylinders**
From top to bottom, the team was *locked in*—smart plays, strong hitting, and airtight defense. It was a full-on **Digga-burial**.

🥎 **Game 9 Recap – Tagged Out vs. Damaged Goods**
**Final Score: Tagged Out 26 – Damaged Goods 0**

First off, shoutout to **Damaged Goods**—one of the classiest, kindest, and most passionate teams we’ve played all year. They show up for the *love of the game*, and we respect the heck out of them for it.

💥 That said... Tagged Out came to play.

🔙 **Sean Fernandes Returns—With a Twist**
After a brief hiatus, **Captain Fernandes** was back—but not where you’d expect. He stepped onto the mound as pitcher and **tossed a shutout**, proving once again why he’s the heartbeat of the team. His leadership (and fastballs) made it clear that Holly and Shawn’s two-week coaching reign was cute… but short-lived.

🦿 **Holly the Dugout Warrior**
Fresh off surgery, **Holly missed her first game due to injury**—but not really. She was there start to finish, hyping the squad, keeping the book, and showing off a pain tolerance that makes Wolverine look soft. Her recovery is going strong, and while we’ll miss her on the field, her dugout presence is just as powerful.

💣 **Dingers, Drama & The Bell Brothers**
**Daniel Bell crushed a home run... that only counted as a single**, thanks to **Shawn Bell launching a 251-foot moonshot** just before him (1 HR per inning limit). The HR streak continues for Shawn, who hit 5th and delivered, though the rest of his at-bats were strictly for cardio.

👯‍♀️ **The Tale of Two Julias**
**Julia at 2B?** Eh… questionable defense.
**Julie at the plate?** Absolute menace.
If Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were softball players, they’d be jealous of this identity switch.

🧠 **Base Coach or Jedi?**
**Ryan Beaulieu** was seen delivering live base coaching wizardry. He’s a **savant on the bags and in the woods**. Tagged out in 49 states—and if not for *that* Mardi Gras incident, it’d be 50.

🧤 **Queen of First Base**
**Carolyn Laird** locked down first base and made it very clear: **this is her territory now**. Enough said.

🧹 **The Rundown**

* 14 runs in the 1st
* A brief siesta in the 2nd & 3rd
* Fire again in the 4th & 5th

🥎 **Game 8 Recap – Where My Pitches At? Taggies Know Exactly Where.**
**Final Score: Tagged Out 23 – WMPA 5**

🔥 *Hot bats. Solid D. Zero mercy.* Tagged Out rolled into Game 8 and took care of business early, putting up runs in bunches and closing out a **23–5 victory** over **Where My Pitches At**.

🚨 **Captain Missing... Again.**
Once again, **Sean Fernandes** was *nowhere to be found*, reportedly working overtime to cover **Holly’s spa tab**. Some say love is patient, others say it’s expensive. Either way, the team was once again in the capable (but less legendary) hands of **Holly Fernandes** and **Shawn Bell**, who stepped up to lead the charge.

💪 **Surgery? What Surgery?**
In true warrior fashion, **Holly took the field one day before going under the knife**. You wouldn’t have known it. She hit, fielded, and led like a boss. Rumor has it the opposing team signed her get-well card *during* the game. Girl power, folks. Never underestimate it.

💣 **Shawn’s Silent Home Run Tour:**
**Shawn Bell continued his quiet assault on the league HR leaderboard**, belting a **3-run shot and a 2-run missile** before *nearly launching a third*. But then—**DANA RIDER HAPPENED.**
From deep center field, **Dana defied physics, leaping like a Marvel superhero, and stealing what looked like a sure-fire third bomb** from Shawn’s stat sheet. The catch was so smooth we’re not even mad—just grateful we got to witness it. **Play of the game.**

🔄 **Fun All Around**
With a strong lead, the team let loose and had fun, with plenty of position swaps and relaxed vibes. It's wins like these that remind everyone why we love this game—and this group.
