Summit Historical Fencing HEMA study group emphasizing 18th to early-19th century English/Irish/Scottish Swordsmanship Private lessons are available.

We are a HEMA study group emphasizing "Georgian Era" English/Irish/Scottish Swordsmanship as recorded in the 18th-to-early-19th century. Our primary training focus is with basket-hilted swords such as the iconic Highland broadsword, but many of the later British regimental methods used toward the end of our time frame (a.k.a. the Napoleonic Era) pertain also to the various military sabre, cutlass, hanger, and spadroon sword-types of the period.

In 1574, as pirate sea queen Grace O’Malley inhabited Rockfleet Castle on the northern shores of Clew Bay in County Mayo, the English sent an expedition of ships and troops to put an end to her maritime exploits.
