Clarksburg Firefighters IAFF Local 89 Clarksburg Local 89 is a proud member of the IAFF, PFFWV, and AFL-CIO. The Local is made up of over 40 active members and 30 retired members.

The objective and goal of this Local Union is to promote their working conditions, to protect the rights and jobs of Local members and to seek a safe and healthful work environment. In addition, this Local shall seek to promote professionalism in the fire service.

HISTORY MADE IN PORTSMOUTH!

The Portsmouth City Council has officially passed the collective bargaining ordinance!

This victory belongs to every city employee, union member, supporter, and citizen who stood together and made their voices heard. Thank you to the members of City Council who voted to give Portsmouth employees a voice at the table.

This is an important step forward, but our work is just beginning. We remain united and ready for what comes next.

When we stand together, we win together!

🙏 The IAFF is saddened to announce the passing of General Secretary-Treasurer Emeritus Thomas H. “Tommy” Miller.

A second-generation fire fighter, Navy veteran, and lifelong union leader, Tommy served 37 years with the Indianapolis Fire Department. He went on to serve as president of the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana, IAFF 8th District vice president, and General Secretary-Treasurer from 2010 until his retirement in 2016.

Tommy said he wanted to be remembered as someone who helped people. Across nearly five decades of service to our union, he did exactly that – improving the lives of countless fire fighters, retirees, and their families.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Barb; their children, Stephanie, Thomas, Joseph (Madison), and Claire; his grandson, Benjamin; and all who knew and loved him.

In 2022, the International Agency for Research on Cancer classified occupational exposure as a firefighter as carcinogenic to humans, Group 1.
That classification recognizes a serious reality of the profession. Firefighter health guidance must reflect the exposures firefighters encounter throughout their careers.
