1000 Islands Charity Poker Run Corp. Announces $457,000 in 2026 Charitable Donations
CLAYTON, N.Y. — August 30, 2026 — The 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run Corp. is proud to announce $457,000 in charitable donations in 2026. The donations include $275,000 to Make-A-Wish Central New York, $172,000 to local first responders, food pantries, and community organizations and $10,000 to River Hospital.
Supporting Children and Families
The organization's largest contribution this year is a $275,000 donation to Make-A-Wish Central New York, helping support its mission of granting life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

I love being part of an amazing team that puts smiles on the faces of children and their families that are facing incredibly difficult situations. The donation will help Make-A-Wish Central New York continue its mission of granting life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.”

Supporting Thousand Islands First Responders
A significant portion of the organization's local giving is dedicated to Thousand Islands Region’s emergency response services. Together, these organizations will receive $135,000 in charitable support to purchase much-needed equipment that helps these organizations remain prepared and better equipped to respond when emergencies occur both on land and water.
The donations will be distributed as follows:
• Alexandria Bay Ambulance — $15,000
• Alexandria Bay Volunteer Fire Company — $35,000
• Brier Hill Volunteer Fire Department — $5,000
• Cape Vincent Volunteer Fire Department — $7,500
• Clayton Volunteer Fire Department — $35,000
• Hammond Volunteer Fire Company — $2,500
• Thousand Islands Emergency Response Services (TIERS) — $30,000
• Wellesley Island Volunteer Fire Department — $5,000
“Our first responders are there when people need them most, often under difficult and unpredictable circumstances,” said Jeff Morgan, Board Director of the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run Corp. “Supporting these organizations is one of the most important things we can do as a community. We are proud that the success of our event allows us to give back to the men and women who work and volunteer to keep our communities and waterways safe.”
“Make-A-Wish has always been our primary charitable beneficiary, and I believe it should remain an important part of our mission,” said Ken Lalonde, Board Director of the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run Corp. “At the same time, our event depends heavily on local first responders, including law enforcement. These departments protect our participants, volunteers, spectators and the surrounding communities throughout the year. Supporting them is directly connected to the safety and long-term success of our event.”
Supporting Veterans
The organization is also donating $10,000 to River Hospital in Alexandria Bay to support equine therapy for veterans living with PTSD and TBI. The program uses interaction with horses as part of a therapeutic approach and provides veterans with a supportive, hands-on environment outside of a traditional clinical setting.
“We are honored to support River Hospital and its commitment to veterans who are living with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries,” said Robert Cantwell, President of the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run Corp. “Our veterans have made tremendous sacrifices for our country, and we are proud to help support a program that provides them with another avenue for healing and hope.”

River Hospital is incredibly proud of the RPTSS program and the specialized behavioral health care it provides for active-duty military members, veterans and first responders,” said Stephanie Weiss, Executive Director of Development, River Hospital. “This investment in equine therapy will directly support their healing and well-being, and is a wonderful example of our community coming together to care for those who have given so much in service to others.”
Supporting Local Communities
An additional $37,000 will support local food security programs as well as local civic and business organizations:
• Alexandria Community Food Pantry — $10,000
• Cape Vincent Food Pantry — $10,000
• Clayton Food Pantry — $10,000
• Alexandria Bay Rotary — $1,000
• Alexandria Bay Chamber of Commerce — $500
• Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce — $500
• Clayton Chamber of Commerce — $5,000
These community donations, combined with the $135,000 provided to first responders, represent $172,000 in local charitable giving.
A Legacy of Giving
With this year's contributions, the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run Corp. has now provided nearly $1.75 million in charitable giving since its founding in 2017, supporting causes and organizations throughout the region and beyond.
