THE “JUST FILL OUT A 4473 AND WALK OUT” SUPPRESSOR OPTION ISN’T AS INSTANT AS IT SOUNDS.
Silencer Shop just notified dealers that current orders are taking about TWO WEEKS just to get out their door. Add transit and receiving time, and it can easily take two to three weeks before a suppressor even reaches your dealer. We cannot transfer something that hasn’t arrived yet.
Here’s the part being left out of the flashy advertising: this particular injunction-based 4473 option is tied strictly to qualifying suppressors purchased through specific distributors like Silencer Shop. A dealer cannot simply order the same suppressor from whichever distributor has it ready to ship and then use this 4473 process.
More importantly, while a recent statement covering an announcement from the ATF director indicates that official guidance regarding these injunction transfers is currently being worked out, no finalized framework has been issued to dealers. Until that official ATF guidance is formally received, Garrison’s Guns is sticking with the traditional Form 4 route.
The good news? Our recent traditional Form 4 approvals are still coming back in APPROXIMATELY SEVEN DAYS.
That means we can order a suppressor from another distributor, receive it quickly, submit your $0 Form 4, and potentially have it approved and in your hands before a delayed Silencer Shop 4473 order would even arrive at our shop.
Read that again: sticking with the traditional Form 4 process is not only the most regulatory-compliant choice right now, but it can also be faster from purchase to possession than the supposedly “instant” 4473 option.
“Same-day pickup” only applies AFTER a suppressor reaches a dealer who offers that process. It does not mean same-day purchase to possession.
The 4473 option is a developing situation, but between current shipping delays and the lack of official ATF guidance, it is not automatically the fastest or smartest route.
