INTRODUCING OUR 2026 RARO 7s TOUR LEADERS!

As Shockwave Rugby Academy prepares for the 2026 Raro Rugby 7s, we're proud to introduce three outstanding women who will lead our squad throughout the campaign.

AMELIA LOCKIE | TOUR CAPTAIN

Some people are natural leaders, and Amelia is one of them.

No matter what team she plays in, people naturally gravitate towards her. Her ability to connect with teammates, bring people together and create a positive team environment is something special.

Combined with her extensive playing experience, Amelia's leadership will be instrumental in setting our squad up for success, both on and off the field.

SONRAE LUI | ON-FIELD CO-CAPTAIN

Sonrae brings valuable high-performance experience, having represented the ACT Brumbies and Australian University Rugby (UniRoos).

Her rugby journey continues to reach new heights, with selection in the inaugural U21 Next Gen Wallaroos team, set to play NZ this coming weekend.

Her experience at the elite level will be invaluable in driving standards and leading our squad on the field.

KIRRA BURKE | ON-FIELD CO-CAPTAIN

Kirra brings extensive military rugby experience, having represented the Australian Defence Force in both XVs and 7s, including international appearances in New Zealand, the UK and France.

With a huge engine, relentless work ethic and a willingness to do the hard yards, Kirra leads from the front and sets the standard through her actions.

PROUDLY REGIONAL. PROUDLY SHOCKWAVE.

All three women have played rugby in regional Queensland and been involved in the Queensland Country rugby program throughout their journeys.

They are proof of something we strongly believe at Shockwave:

Talent isn't limited by postcode.

Creating opportunities and showcasing regional rugby talent is at the heart of what we do.

We're proud to have Amelia, Sonrae and Kirra leading our 2026 RARO 7s campaign and representing the talent, character and opportunities that regional rugby has to offer.

INTRODUCING YOUR SHOCKWAVE RAROTONGA 7s SQUAD!

14 Players. One Team. One Mission.

Shockwave Rugby Academy is proud to introduce the 14 athletes who will represent us at the Raro Rugby 7s in the Cook Islands!

Bringing together talented players from across different clubs and regions, this squad represents everything Shockwave stands for — hard work, commitment, opportunity and a passion for rugby.

Each player brings their own experience, strengths and determination to the squad, united by a shared ambition to compete, challenge themselves and proudly represent on the international stage.

We also want to recognise the home clubs, families, supporters and generous sponsors who have helped make this opportunity possible. Your support plays an important role in giving these athletes the chance to experience rugby beyond their local competitions.

Now it's time to come together, embrace the challenge and make the most of this incredible opportunity!

RIVALS ONE WEEKEND. TEAMMATES THE NEXT.

The beauty of rugby isn't just the battles fought on the field, it's the friendships formed, the opportunities created and the journeys that bring us together.

Just days ago, these seven athletes stood on opposite sides of the field at the TDRU - Townsville and District Rugby Union Festival of 7s. Fierce competitors, proudly representing their respective teams, giving everything for the jersey they wore.

But that's the magic of rugby. Yesterday's rivals become tomorrow's teammates.

Soon, they'll trade their team colours for the Shockwave jersey, united by a shared opportunity to represent on the international stage at the Raro Rugby 7s in the Cook Islands in early November.

Lauren Harris | SRA #23
Kylie Phillips | SRA #50*
Brandy Yallop | SRA #54*
Siena Tabacchi | SRA #47
Amelia Lockie | SRA #52*
Cloe Gerhart | SRA #56*
Kirra Burke | SRA #21

*Shockwave debut!

And we're not finished yet!

These seven will be joined by more exciting talent from Townsville, Central Queensland and Canberra, bringing together players from across the country to proudly represent Shockwave.

Different clubs. Different teams. Different backgrounds. One Shockwave.

That's what Shockwave is all about — bringing players together, building connections and creating opportunities that extend far beyond their local rugby fields.

Individual brilliance. Collective success.

Following our back-to-back Cup victory at the 2026 TDRU - Townsville and District Rugby Union Festival of 7s, we're proud to recognise three outstanding Shockwave athletes!

TOURNAMENT MVP

🏆 MADDIE SCHELL | SRA #6

At just 16 years old, Maddie is an exciting young talent with a huge future ahead of her. Playing with confidence and maturity beyond her years, she delivered an outstanding tournament and showed exactly why she's one to watch!

💗 PLAYERS' PLAYER AWARDS

In typical fashion we couldn't pick just one as the votes were tied so we have two players players awards from the tournament.

🏆 MONTANNA PORTER | SRA #59

At just 17, Montanna continues to impress as a talented dual-code athlete. Her athleticism, determination and willingness to compete earned the respect of her teammates and this well-deserved recognition.

🏆 CASEY CRAM | SRA #58

Casey answered the call just one day before the tournament, stepping into a team of unfamiliar faces with nothing but a positive attitude and a willingness to give everything. No hesitation, no expectations, just pure commitment to the team. That's what rugby is all about! 💪

Three very different journeys, but all representing the same Shockwave values of courage, commitment and teamwork.

👏 Show Maddie, Montanna and Casey some love in the comments! 💗💙

When there was nothing left in the tank, our girls found something more.

Tired bodies, enormous pressure and everything on the line. Day 2 of the TDRU - Townsville and District Rugby Union Festival of 7s tested our girls in every way, but their heart, belief and determination delivered back to back cup titles!

Once again, we simply couldn't split our Players of the Day!

🏆 ANNALISE RIDGILL | SRA #40

🏆 JESS FURBER | SRA #61

Two incredible performances when it mattered most, showing grit, composure and an unwavering commitment to their teammates.

Individual recognition, but a championship built on the courage and collective effort of an entire squad.

ONE TEAM. ONE SHOCKWAVE.

BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPIONS!

🏆 2025
🏆 2026

What a way to finish an incredible weekend of rugby @ the TDRU - Townsville and District Rugby Union Festival of 7's.

After falling to 5BD Brothers earlier in the day and surviving an intense overtime semi-final against The Ratz, our ladies had to dig deep, find that final bit of energy and leave absolutely everything on the field.

And that's exactly what they did!

With tired bodies, enormous hearts and an unwavering commitment to each other, the girls fought their way to a 15–10 Grand Final victory, securing the TDRU - Townsville and District Rugby Union Festival of 7's Cup! 🏆

A massive thank you to every team who competed across the weekend. The competition was fierce, but the respect, sportsmanship and spirit of rugby were even greater.

A special shoutout to The Ratz and 5BD Brothers, who pushed our ladies to their absolute limits. You are incredible competitors, outstanding players and a credit to the women's game. Nothing but respect! 🙏

Most importantly, to our Shockwave ladies, this title belongs to every single one of you. You showed what can be achieved through resilience, teamwork and a willingness to fight for the person beside you.
