These scenes from British Pathé show physical training sessions at youth camps in N*zi Germany in 1937. Prior to the regime’s rise to power, youth camps were popular and widespread throughout Germany and attracted many families. They were considered hubs of socialisation, physical development, and entertainment for teenage children. The H*tler Youth (H*tlerjugend) was founded in 1922 to indoctrinate its members with the national socialist ideology from an early age and gained interest especially among the lower class as it was free to join and participate in, unlike the other organizations at that time. Shortly after the N*zi Party came to power, all the other youth organisations were banned, and it became mandatory for all boys between the ages of 14-18 to join the H*tler Youth. At the camps, other than playing games and doing sports, they learned to parade, read maps, become accustomed to military uniforms and authority and even receive basic-level instruction in weaponry, drills, and combat. The objective was to create a completely loyal youth that could fight for the regime without questioning in the event of war and uprising. There was another youth organisation for the girls to attend which was called “League of German Girls” (Bund Deutscher Mädel). The aim of the organisation and the content of the camps were similar to those of the H*tler Youth. As can be seen in the video, members often trained and demonstrated alongside the H*tler Youth. However, unlike their male counterparts, there was very little and negligible military instruction at the League of German Girls; instead, they were given cooking, knitting and childcare classes, in accordance with the N*azi ideology. ———————————————————— ‼️ IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: This reel exclusively serves educational purposes.
