We are having a cold front next and a member is collecting clean Cold weather coats for Metropolitan Ministries. If you have any in any size adults and children’s please drop them off at the gym by Monday.
The food pantry always need cereal as it is the first thing to go. Thanks in advance for your donations.

Happy Friday! What are you doing to take care of yourself this weekend? The health and wellness industry tries to make people think they have to spend money to practice "self-care," but there are many budget-friendly ways you can take treat yourself to some R&R! See below for some ideas, and let us know what your go-to self-care practice is!
- Read a good book
- Listen to relaxing music
- Take a nap
- Catch up with a friend
- Take a 24-hour break from social media
- Practice mindfulness with meditation and/or yoga
- Go for a walk to get fresh air
- Do absolutely nothing (and don't feel guilty about it!)

Did you know that flexibility and mobility are very important - but often overlooked - aspects of any fitness routine? Prime 8 provides an array of foam rollers, bands, massage sticks, and other tools to help improve your flexibility/mobility and prevent injury! We encourage you to take advantage of these tools before and after workouts!
Other tips for improving flexibility/mobility and preventing injury:
- properly warm up and cool down before and after every workout: focus on dynamic stretching as a warm up and static stretching as a cool down
- take frequent walking breaks at work, especially if you have a desk job
- cross train: switch up the type of workouts you do to prevent overuse injuries

Overall wellness is SO much more than just about what we eat and how much we exercise - sleep, stress management, social life, overall mental health, and even genetics play a huge role. If these other factors aren't getting the attention they deserve, it can be difficult to achieve optimal health.
Sleep may actually be the single most important factor - without adequate sleep, our bodies and minds cannot function properly, and won't be able to properly recover from workouts. Not getting enough sleep has even been shown to cause increased cravings for simple sugars.
Here are some tips for getting those z's:
-exercise regularly (but not too close to bedtime)
- get outside during the day to get exposure to bright light
- reduce light from electronics (blue light) in the evening - stop watching TV/using your phone at least one hour before bed
- do not consume caffeine after 3pm
- try to sleep and wake at consistent times (even on the weekend)
- avoid alcohol before bed as it can lead to disrupted sleep patterns
- sleep in a pitch black room (black-out curtains are helpful)
- establish a bedtime routine (this will let your brain and body know that it's time for bed and can help you fall asleep more quickly)
