Muscles that work together to perform a movement are called synergists. Some are the prime movers, and some are the helpers. When the helpers take over for weak primes, pain and injury are not far behind. Saw an avid bicyclist with bilateral groin pain. She was concerned it was her hip joints. Those tested fine. I did find the muscle area near her hip joint very tight. That muscle is the pectineus, an adductor/hip flexor, very small, but often implicated when the larger hip flexors go offline. Sure enough , her iliacus, psoas, and re**us femoris were weak. That's a big burden for the pectineus. Released it, activated the others, and groin pain gone. NKT works with not only synergistic relationships, but also functional opposites and kinetic chains.

The relationship between the long head of the biceps and the upper trap is important in shoulder dysfunctions. Yesterday I saw 3 different presentations of this. One had torn the long head of his biceps completely, and had massive pain and tightness in his upper trap. The other had upper trap from while swimming because of a dysfunctional long head. The third had lifted something too heavy, dislocated the long head tendon, and had upper trap discomfort. Same presentation, three different causes. Homework was to release the upper trap and activate the bicep. In NKT, we don't just release tight muscles. We figure out why they're tight.

My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE muscle to find dysfunctions with in the body. Such a culprit to many many issues!

One of my favorite muscle relationships is QL to QL (quadratus lumborum). When one is working harder than the other, it causes one hip to be higher than the other. This is a very common finding in folks with Low Back Pain and sacroiliac pain. Look at the fiber orientations in the QL. Some are vertical, and some are diagonal. The vertical ones create extension of the lower back. The diagonal ones allow for side bending and rotation. So although we name it one muscle, the QL is actually an accumulation of differentiate muscle fibers with specific movement tasks. That's why our testing has to be precise, and include the different vectors. In NKT we modify our testing based on muscle fiber orientation.

Putting those high Traps in a nice stretch(forward roll) and going to work! Brought back some incredible Range of Motion on this girl and even some underlying strength that wasnt being used, thanks to NKT and getting those muscles firing correctly.

It might only be Monday but this is one piece of work im proud of. Bringing back mobility is CRUTIAL to muscle development and longevity of a bodybuilding or sports career.

Haven't really been training this movement much lately, but I matched my best ever Clean today at 170kg (374lbs). Jerks weren't dialed in and that's why I didn't attempt to jerk the 170. My feet kept getting stuck, which is partly why I looked like a baby giraffe recovering from the 160 jerk. I'm at 81kg body weight right now.
I've bee battling with nagging injuries and adrenal fatigue, I didn't peak for this lift or even really trained for it. So I'm incredibly thankful that God gave me the strength to hit this lift and keeping me healthy while doing it. All the glory to God!
Big shout to for fueling ⛽️️ that lift with their total awesome pre-workout.
Also big thanks to for helping my recovery and movement. Much love for who really knows his stuff.

This will be my last big lift in these shoes 👠. My should be arriving anytime now. Can't wait to retire my and crush new PRs in my new kicks.

So I found this neat little tool at the office and decided it needed some attention. My girl got to be my subject, how lucky you were. (Dont worry folks dark spot low/mid back is a tat, not a bruise 🙄)
Thanks , , , and for everything!

I cannot begin to explain the importance of Shoulder Mobility, Scapular Stability, and Thoracic Spine Mobility! To keep certain joints and areas functional and "fluid", you need a solid base of musculature and stability to work off of!

DM #220: Education is paramount, but if behaviors don’t change, if words don’t become actions, if things aren’t actually DONE, your treatment is incomplete.
I always preach about being weary of the pendulum swinging too far (it inevitably always does) when it comes to trends, fads, new ideas, and well, basically anything. Pain science is a HUGE issue in the rehab world right now, rightfully so, but we must make sure that we don’t let the pendulum swing too far.
Talk to your patients. Educate your patients. Discuss pain science with your patients. But make sure that your patients are actually DOING something. Examples: Right-Left discrimination (google it and check out ), visualization, introduction of pain free movements, repatterning of painful movements, dietary changes, breathing, movement, self treatment, bodywork, acupuncture, lifestyle changes, energy work, meditation, the list could go on and on.
Take home message: Don’t let the pendulum swing too far. Pain science is about WAY more than just educating your patients and telling them that pain is not in their tissues. Educate yourself, learn the nuances, see the bigger picture, and then implement #

If you've ever foam rolled before then you already understand the love hate relationship that comes with these little guys 😆 Even though it may be painful at times, the benefits far outweigh the pain threshold.

What exactly is a Foam Roller and how do you use it? A foam roller is a piece of foam (usually in the shape of a cylinder) that is used for self-massage by an athlete or gym goer to pressure sensitive areas in the muscles and provide soft tissue work at a significantly less cost than needing to visit a massage therapist. By rolling over knots, trigger points, and sensitive areas you can perform self-myofasial release right from the comfort of your home or local gym. Self-myofasial release is just a technical term for self-massage that can work wonders for injured athletes or injury prevention.

The technique is pretty much self explanatory as you'll simply allow your body-weight to apply pressure to the tight spots. Do not violently roll the foam roller over your muscle but simply lay upon the tight area and hold. You will notice the pain threshold slowly going away after few seconds of holding. Then, slightly roll a bit further and hold again by gently applying enough body-weight against the foam to give good solid pressure.

The major areas and muscle groups that respond to foam work are the glutes, quads, hips, adductors, upper & lower back, and calves. There are some fantastic youtube videos that show the proper form and demonstration for each muscle group.

Foam rolling can performed with great benefit both before and after workouts. Rolling prior to a workout can help to decrease muscle density and allow for a better warm-up. Rolling after a workout may help in recovery after strenuous exercise. I myself usually foam roll or roll on a lacrosse ball for about 10 minutes pre-workout with emphasis on the lats, adductors, and hips as these areas get really tight if I sit for long periods of time.

I hope this helps and answers some questions people may have about foam rolling & self-myofascial release. Foam rollers are a small investment that can provide a significant benefit to anybody that is seri
