June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, and I think about this more than people might expect from a fitness professional.

I've read the research, and seen it in practice.

There is a real, meaningful connection between regular physical activity and brain health.

When we move consistently, we support circulation.

We reduce inflammation, we give our brains a better environment to function in.

I'm not a neurologist. I'm not going to overstate what exercise can do.

But I will say this, every time I work with a client and I see them feeling sharper, more present, more engaged after a session, I believe it.

Movement is one of the most powerful tools we have, and it's available to all of us: https://lnkd.in/gCQgvXVB

Men's health.

In my experience working with older adults, men are often the last ones to ask for help. The last ones to admit something has changed. The last ones to say "I'm not moving the way I used to."

I get it, there's a certain pride in feeling capable. In not needing assistance.

But here's what I've seen over and over again, the men who do show up, who do the work, who commit to something small and consistent, they get that capability back.

Not all of it, maybe but enough.

Enough to walk without hesitation, enough to get up from a chair without thinking twice. Enough to keep doing the things they love.

That's what Men's Health Month means to me.

Not a dramatic transformation.

Just showing up for yourself because you deserve to.

If that resonates with you or someone you know, this is a good place to start: https://lnkd.in/gCQgvXVB

Five years ago today, I donated a kidney to a stranger I found on Facebook.

It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, and one of the most meaningful.

We weren't a match, but through a paired exchange, three donors and three recipients all got what they needed.

The man who received my kidney passed away 15 months later, not from kidney disease, but from something unrelated. We never got to know each other the way I'd hoped.

But his family and I have stayed close, and I know those months after his surgery were deeply meaningful for him.

The person I originally donated for is doing great.

We stay in touch.

That matters to me.

And me? I feel good. I work out five times a week and my health is right where it should be.

If you've ever thought about living donation, I encourage you to look into it. It won't be easy. But it will be worth it.

I wrote more about the experience on my blog: https://lnkd.in/gXVCTK5q

People stay more consistent when they're exercising alone. That's part of why I offer live online group fitness classes, small, intentional, and built specifically for older adults at an intermediate fitness level.

Every exercise is modifiable.

Every class is capped at 12 participants so it's personal, not a crowd.

If you've been exercising alone and finding it hard to stay consistent, this is worth trying.

We go by values of being fun, structured, effective, and you never have to leave home.

Summer brings longer days, better weather, and more reasons to get outside.

Whether that looks like walks in your neighborhood, gardening, or time with grandkids, make the most of it.

Get out there and invest in yourself.

Many of the older adults I work with have lived through eras of service and sacrifice that most of us can only read about. They carry that history in their bodies and in their stories.

Today I am thinking of them, the ones who served, the families who waited, and the ones who never came home.

Freedom is not abstract. It was paid for by real people, with real lives.

Thank you. I honor you. I remember. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

This one is for the sons, daughters, and caregivers.

If you have a parent or loved one who has become less active and you're not sure how to help, I want you to know about this resource.

The At Home Senior Fitness course on Udemy was built for exactly this situation.

It's something your loved one can do independently, from home, at their own pace.

No travel, no supervision required for every session, and no intimidating gym environment.

Sometimes the best gift you can give someone you love is a practical path forward.

"Can this really work online?" and my honest answer is -- Yes! Absolutely!

I train a third of my clients virtually and what I've found is that once people try it, they wonder why they waited so long.

No travel, no weather concerns, no exposure to whatever's going around at the gym.

Virtual sessions are available to clients everywhere not just in the Cleveland area.

So if you've been looking for a trainer who truly understands senior fitness and you don't live nearby, this is your option. It's easier than you think, and it works.

High blood pressure is called the silent killer for a reason.

Today is World Hypertension Day, and I want to use this moment to imply that movement is one of the most evidence-backed tools we have for managing blood pressure naturally.

Not a replacement for medication when medication is needed but a meaningful, powerful complement to it.

If you or someone you love is managing hypertension, please talk to your doctor and ask about incorporating movement into the plan.

It matters more than most people realize.

Know your numbers. Move your body. Take this seriously.

Walking confidence is subtle at first, a slight hesitation at the curb.

Slowing down on uneven ground, reaching for the railing when you didn't used to.

Most people chalk it up to "getting older" and leave it at that.

But here's what I've learned from years of working with older adults: That hesitation is almost always connected to strength and balance not age itself.

Strength and balance can be rebuilt, at almost any age. That's what the research shows, and it's what I've watched happen with my own clients.

If you or someone you love has started to notice changes in how they move, that's the signal to start not to wait.
