There’s a difference between conviction and condemnation. If we’re not careful, we can miss it. 💎

I experienced a moment where I was already feeling the weight of my choices. I was seeking help. I was seeking direction. And instead of being met with love… I was met with judgment.

Though I imagine this wasn't the intent- it made things worse. It hurt me to my core.

See, sometimes we as the church, in our desire to see people grow, can unintentionally cause more harm than healing. ❤️‍🩹

We want transformation.
We want people to turn from sin.
But how we show up in those moments matters❗️
Because when someone is already surrendering… when someone is already asking, “what must I do?”… they don’t need to be reminded of their failure. They need to be guided with grace.

Now let’s be clear—this isn’t about avoiding truth.
You can be direct. You can be firm. You can be clear.
But it should still reflect Christ. 🙏🏾

Years ago, in one of the happiest seasons of my life, I was wrongfully terminated 😳…
I remember being so hurt. My identity was shaken. I had former supervisors telling me how amazing I was. I had family and friends pouring into me- reminding me that what was said about me wasn’t true. But I was still hurt. And then I was livid!

I hired myself an attorney. No payment unless we won? Oh I was READY❗️
I wanted justice and this attorney said I could get it. Bet!👏🏾

But in the middle of all of that… God gently whispered to me:
“Stop fighting.”

Whew!!

I was HOT. Hurt. Confused. For a split second, I remember thinking… “Doesn’t God care about me?”

Because what do you mean stop fighting… when I have every right to fight?
But I obeyed.

I called the lawyer that same day and told him to close the case. I laid it down.

And in doing that… God placed in my hands what I was actually meant to carry.
He gave me promise after promise I never saw coming. He restored… and then restored some more.

Because YES, He does care about me.

But He’s also God.

He doesn’t move based on my emotions—He moves according to His sovereignty. 🙌🏾

And in His wisdom, He knew exactly what He had in store for me. I just had to be willing to put down what He didn’t tell me to carry… so I could properly carry what He did.

Because it’s not a comfy space sometimes. 😬 It’s a space of correction.

Merriam-Webster defines it as a process of cultivation, while Cambridge defines it as a process of making pure. 💎

Oooweee! That means it takes time… AND some things HAVE to change❗️

Can I tell you something else though?
Refinement from God—in the form of correction—means love ❤️

It’s the Father and the Judge removing what can’t go with you into your next… because He loves you too much to let you stay stuck. 🙌🏾

One more thought for you…

In order to be refined, you must be willing and open to change. You must be willing and open to obedience.

Because half stepping and partial obedience is still disobedience. 🗣️
And disobedience won’t get you where you need to be.

Disobedience causes delays. Disobedience has collateral damage. Disobedience has consequences.

The story of David, Saul, Uzzah, and others in 1 Samuel teaches us this clearly!
But if you’re willing to obey…
